Well, for instance, my favorite club is AC Milan. I have been playing my whole life, and watching on TV as well. When I saw Marco Van Basten play for Holland in 1988, he instantly became my idol. He was playing for AC Milan, so I started following the team. The Holland national team only plays in major tournaments every 2-4 years, so the only way to watch my favorite player constantly was to follow the club. Little by little, I became more obsessed, and then it became an addiction. My favorite players team had to be the best and win, and it stayed that way. I would not support any other club, ever.

Arsenal Football Club. Below are 10 reasons:
1. Arsenal is one of the few clubs in England whose name is not based on a place in the country.
2. Arsenal did not have a great history to begin with, yet they are one of EPL's best clubs.
3. Arsenal are the poorest amongst the BIG Four, and has always had less transfer funds than so-called lesser clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle.
4. Arsenal are still the best youth-nurturing club in Europe, not Man U. Man U spends 20 million euros on an established youth and turn him into a superstar; Arsenal spend nothing on a unknown youth and turn him into a superstar.
5. Arsenal, despite their French manager, has genuine English owners.
6. Arsenal are the only team in the EPL that always play beautiful attacking football.
7. Arsenal fans are usually die-hard and have extensive knowledge of football. Yes, they are Arsenal fans because they choose to be, not because of peer pressure.
8. Arsenal did not have to spend a fortune to beat Man U when they won the title in previous years
9. Arsenal do not worship legends, unlike clubs like Man U(Keane, Cantona) or Liverpool(Shankly), instead Arsenal fans just remember and respect the legends for all the things they have done for the club. Examples are Robert Pires, Dennis Bergkamp, Tony Adams etc.
10. Arsenal has Thierry Henry!!!

I have a tendency to route for individual players that I like. That usually results in me liking the team they play for. If I'm a fan of the area / city, then it's a match made in heaven. For football, I grew to like Andrea Pirlo during the World Cup last year. So, for me, I would side with AC Milan who just happened to win the EUFA Cup this year. I'm going to Italy later this summer, so we'll see what Milan has to offer as far as being a city.
Here in the US, I love Kobe Bryant. I love Southern California. So that is a match made in heaven.
