First of all Sara when I said that I didn't like any of the items on the list I was talking about she didn't have anything on there that the baby could grow into, she's a first time mom and really has no idea what's to come (ie. all the newborn/preemie stuff which she has on there will only last a couple of weeks)...So I appreciate your suggestion but your comment was rude and you could have kept that to yourself!

Price is really not an object as she's my sister..she already has the nursery stuff (crib, bedding, dresser, rocking chair etc) which is why this is so hard for me.

I would say get her the items on her registry. She knows what she needs and if she scanned it then obviosly thats what she wants. Diaper Genies are great though, car seats, strollers, high chairs, pack and plays. Binkies, and bigger kid clothes that she wont need untill the baby is 12 months or so (mostly everyone will buying her 0-3 months clothes, and then when the baby grows she will have little to wear) But otherwise, I would stick to the registry. I know i thought alot about what I scanned for mine, and I didn't scan it unless I needed it!

Oh and there is a bear out there that plays womb sounds, I never knew it existed, but my sister in law bought it for me, and my boy still loves it, and he's going on a year old!

diapers are always a great gift. newborns grow so fast so buying 1 of each stage would be very helpful. Also the best gift I got for my 2nd baby shower was actually not for the baby, but for me. It was a lil overnight bag w/ toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, chapstick, lip gloss and a hair ribbon to tie my hair up for those pictures that come afterwards) that i would need for my stay in the hospital and a night gown that opened in the front to breast feed and slide in slippers. it was not on my registry and i would never have thought of something like that.
now when i go to baby showers i always get them 3 items off the registry and the mommy gift as i call it.

My sister (who loves to cook) got me my high chair. Think of things you like, or would like to do with your niece. Is this her first child? Do you have any kids? I would really say stick with the registry unless you are a parent and know something she would need or like that isn't on the registry.
A good item that is for when the baby is a little older is an umbrella stroller, I ended up getting the $20 version since it was not bought for me, but I would have loved to get one of the nicer models!

I would get her something off her registry. She put those things on there because that's what she wanted and needed. You can also get her something not on the registry as well like maybe some diapers or wipes. You could also get her a personalized blanket with her baby's name on it. That would be a good gift.

You can never have enough diapers or wipes. Baby shampoo/soap. Or like a teddy bear. Some kids grow up with their stuff animal that they have since their newborn.

I used to be at a child bathe as soon as wherein they performed the sport wherein there are a couple of child units on a tray, and the mother-to-be confirmed each person the tray after which took it away... BUT, there used to be a twist to the sport (due to the fact plenty of humans have performed this recreation, and had been anticipating to must memorize the units at the tray) - the questions had been: What colour blouse used to be the mother-to-be dressed in? Is she dressed in jewelry? Etc. I proposal it used to be a lovable variant on a traditional child bathe recreation.

How much are you looking to spend? (will check back and update my answer ...)

(well, thththhbt to those who gave me a thumbsdown just because I want to give her a practical answer. Though I do agree with a post below - give her something off her registry. It's what she needs, and what she wants, and this is about her and the baby, not you. Add in something small that's personal. IMO the best gift my baby was given was something not on the registry, though. A sleep sheep, made by Cloud B.)

Something that is good to get that hardly anyone registers for or gets is the safty stuff like drawers and cabinet locks, the plastic things for the outlets in the walls, plus a carbon monixide detector. These are stuff that she can grow with!!! Plus you can get her a nice soft blanket~she will grow with that too!!

For my sister's baby shower I got her a few baby outfits and books. However her favorite present was I got her something that was sentimental. I searched on ebay and found a book that we had as kids and loved. She was so happy to get since she can now read it to her little one just like my mother read it to both of us.
