My son loves green beans but the Gerber baby foods are just too runny. Is it okay to give him like, Green Giant green beans and cut them up real small? He has six teeth, so he can eat just about anything. lol Thanks!

Absolutely!! If he has teeth, give them to him. When mine had teeth, even just the front ones, I gave them canned veggies. They not only use their teeth, but all this time all they've ever done is gnawed so they know how to "gum" things into mush....just like chewing.

The best to get....

I buy the Wal-Mart brand green beans, diced carrots and peas that come in a four pack of individual cups.....just like fruit cups.

It's also good practice for them picking them up and feeding themselves.

I also am not a big worry wart about what they contain as far as sodium. There is not much difference in those veggies and the Gerber bite size veggies.

I recently started buying canned veggies for my 8 month olds. I just make sure that the ingredients are only that vegetable and water. The baby food jars just started getting to expensive and I dont have enough time to buy whole veggies and cook them. Rather than cutting the beans into small pieces because thats time consuming I would just mash them with a fork so that they arent runny but your child wont choke.

No salt or low salt. It's better to stick with fresh veggies or the baby food veggies because of the salt content of canned items. The canned fruit however is a great thing!

There are veggies in the baby section. I know at our Wal-Mart here they have graduate foods that have the whole greenbeens and carrots you can give to your baby. Check there if not I think the cans would be fine I gave them to my kids and they showed not bad affects.

canned veggies have a lot of salt in them. it might be best to wait a few more months. if he only has 6 teeth, the green beans could be a choking hazard. ask your doctor

When my son was that age we used to buy fresh green beans (from the produce section) steam them up and then cut them into bites. He loved to pick them up and feed himself :)

You could also cook some tapioca and add that to the green beans to thicken it up, or try some mash potato too.

Try him on some fresh green beans, he might like those too, adding them to mash potato too.

When I feed my kid canned veggies they are always without salt. By that age I was giving my kid everything that I was eating for dinner, unless it was junk food.
Why not buy fresh and cook or microwave them yourself? It is MUCH cheeper.

Talk to your pediatrician. The problem with canned veggies is the salt, but there are low salt options out there.

If you cut them up small enough for him not to choke on it will be fine. Fresh food is always better than tin food
