'Most interesting question indeed.
I suppose there is a specific purpose for you using the Philosophy section rather than the Alternative section or even another category -- so interesting is your question . Of course, quite frankly, the page chosen is of little importance and we need not second-guess participants in this vast medium, Yahoo Answers, that we have been afforded -- you agree?
Yes is the answer. In truth, such is needed and looked forward-to by the individual who has progressed to a given stage and who, for some specific purpose, comes to such an access. A lesser form of this exists: even today some hint of this is given over in reality by proof of those whose specialities center on past-life regression. However, this does not even touch the surface...but is just a beginning and no more than this...
The core of an individual is a historical document, if you will, having numerous layers of archival, moreoever holographic accounts of all that has come before the present time. With these records comes all the events and talents developed during these many past epochs, and which abilities, temperaments, causes, no matter the qualities -- good, bad, or waffle -- can be retrieved and be used as means to treat or address causations of myriad types, and which are based on as many and varied lives, and in as many species forms...
Moreover, one can actually upload abilities that he or she once had but which now set dormant for necessary reasons. If that past talent or gift or ability would serve of some highly important purpose -- either for that individual or for the outying universe -- then that ability is given at once.
'Because we are not who we were but who we are, certain experience must be undergone presently to enable us to proceed with what life presents us today. And so these imprints or matrices are held in abeyance so as not to disturb us while moving about the day-to-day experiences.
But they can be accessed and uploaded just as you would perform an upload upon a computer; if I can use a metaphor here.
Not unlike this universe's ways and structure, say, as regards an anatomy and physiology of an organism, we do expand, we grow, we unfold. As certain levels are achieved we then afford ourselves the opportunity to redress certain blockages or hindrances from within us and mitigate against them, whose continuance would otherwise hinder us from moving ahead.
Note that this occurs on the inner planes, not the outer as one would find in a psychological consultation or treatment setting, for this pales in comparison to what resides deep to us.
Again your question is a great one. Actually, we need only simply re-frame your interrogative into that of the declarative statement and we then have an added insight to unveil a deepest knowledge and by this exact the very truths to provide us the next answers, for you are definitely on to something, even more than one could realize. For implicit in what you ask is at once an affirmation of what you are 'indeed ' seeing ' mentally, emotionally, and subconsciously; and this, however, on the subtle planes, or inner planes, and which regard very real mechanisms.
At the core of any individual resides the capacities of a mighty being. But for now, all who are here have well agreed to have the veil drawn so that we can get on with life without biases of the past interfering or corrupting the long, ardous pathway of life here...for just as we need help to grow, the universes, too, need to learn from us: this is not a figurative or metaphorical claim.
An unconscious individual will not always be unconscious. Unconsciousness is but a deciduous thing. Just as the season bring the Autumn windfalls of leaves, so does in time growth and spiritual maturity bring the dropping of the great veil to which we all have agreed, that we can now proceed without 'conscious' interfering' from the strike and strain of the distant and hoary past -- this, whether we realize this or not.

Memories are only a mechanism for collecting thought. You are the same energy now as you were before all of this thinking took place. You will drop this imagined entity called 'you' when the tool you use to collect these memories stops functioning. There are no memories before thinking started for you.

Everyone lived in the pre-mortal existence with our Father in Heaven. When we crossed the veil, as spirits, and entered the growing fetus within our mothers all memory of the previous life vanished.
Had it not done so we would know with a perfect knowledge what we must do to return to the Father's presence. Acting upon His gift of free agency allows us to make good and bad choices and then learn from them in the strong hopes we all would follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and His commandments.

According to teacher and rebirther Sondra Ray (Birth and Relationship; Ideal Birth) and Thomas Verney (The Secret Life of the Unborn Child) we all have memories of our time in the womb and our births.
Many people have been "re-birthed" and then remember their time in the womb.

If, you talking in the womb. Yes, people do actually go back. This a psychological thing. But, a person that becomes afraid or abused may actually go into a fetal position. I believe this is the brain trying to go to a point in time it remembered safety.

Most individuals are answering in phrases of typical ideals, I wager.. I consider you imply recollections from earlier than being conceived as good as earlier than being born.... Although I have none of the ones recollections lol, I truthfully am open to the thought that its feasible.. I do consider in an afterlife, and if there may be an afterlife, why might there now not be some thing earlier than too? I say its feasible. :)

Our youngest son told us about the place he stayed at before he was born.
He called it the place where the babies wait to be born.
