As I rise (from a chair) my weight is balanced on both feet. The left foot and right hand go forward as I begin walking. I'm not sure about getting out of a car, though. I didn't try it.

Most people are right-handed. Therefore, most people will also be right-footed. Another way to see which "foot" you are is to have someone shove you from behind. Whichever foot you put out in front to brace yourself is which "foot" you are, and most people will be right-right or left-left. Also, the average person will swing the opposite leg and arm at the same time, i.e. when right foot goes forward, left arm does and vice versa. I, personally, step my right foot forward, first, and my left arm swings forward.
