I went to a wedding on Saturday in Witchita and I saw the USGS there. Then today I saw them in Nebraska between Lincoln and Ceresco. Is something going on?

The USGS is out all the time, but the summer season is conducive to field work. They have thousands of employees - you may have seen people from Water Resources checking out stream gages or making water level measurements in wells. Or geologists from Geologic Discipline doing field research.

No, it's just June when field expeditions get started after school lets out, after mid-year budget reviews and the climate is conducive to field work.
