I agree, and it might surprise a lot of people here to find out that "the funniest man in America" is, of all things, a Libertarian. It always shocks me to hear people, when asked about their political beliefs, recite the Libertarian platform. When I ask them if they're a Libertarian they always say no, they're a moderate, and they wouldn't waste their vote on those nutjobs.
Some examples of Barry's libertarian commentary:
• On tax cuts: "Most of the presidential candidates' economic packages involve 'tax breaks,' which is when the government, amid great fanfare, generously decides not to take quite so much of your income. In other words, these candidates are trying to buy your votes with your own money." -- Column, February 9, 1992
• On the growth of government: "Whatever the needs of the public are, the government responds to those needs by getting larger." -- Dave Barry Hits Below the Beltway (Random House, 2001)
• On government's one useful function: "My only concern is that, if we ever do wise up and dump the federal government, I'll lose my biggest source of comic material." -- Review of David Boaz's book Libertarianism: A Primer, 1997
• On the tax code: "Why can't Americans do their own taxes? Because the federal Tax Code is out of control, that's why. It's gigantic and insanely complex, and it gets worse all the time. Nobody has ever read the whole thing. IRS workers are afraid to go into the same ROOM with it." -- Column, April 6, 2003
• On the War on Drugs: "The way this country deals with drugs is just not funny. What a waste of everyone's time and effort. What a waste of a lot of people's lives." -- Reason, December 1994
• On government "job-creation" programs: "See, when the government spends money, it creates jobs; whereas when the money is left in the hands of taxpayers, God only knows what they do with it. Bake it into pies, probably. Anything to avoid creating jobs." -- Column, February 23, 1992
Despite the steady drumbeat of pro-liberty themes, Barry said most readers probably haven't figured out that he's a libertarian. "Because I don't write an overly political column, people just assume I'm not," he told Reason. "I guess nobody assumes anybody is a libertarian. It's a more complex political discussion than most people are used to, to explain why you think the way you do about public education or drug laws, and why it's not as simple as being for or against something."

The government is dangerous, powerful and relentless, but it also 'can be' compassionate, giving, protecting and nuturing.
Think of it like a parent to a child. A good parent cares for, nourishes and enriches their childs life. A bad parent beats the child and makes a childs life miserable. The difference here is we, as the child in this case, hold the possibility of changing our parent, as long as we don't let it get too out of control.

Whoa, interesting quote! Agree but then again disagree. We have a great system of government with checks and balances. Of course, those checks and balances are often abused. So, it's still an amazing accomplishment set out by our forefathers...it's just continually getting distorted as years go by. *sigh* So do I blame the government as an entity or the selfish money hungry people themselves?

For today, I agree. For tomorrow, I work toward the good in this democracy which is expected and demanded by its citizens, I expect to cast out any and all who have abused the "privilege" of power.
Power in the wrong hands can be as a fungus, which seeps through the most tightly woven threads of our democracy! We all need to be diligently watching and speaking up, speaking out against any and ALL fraud, deceit, and abuses of power in these United States of America! You know, the land of the Free - the home of the Brave!
It's my hope that all who visit these pages, from the USA, actually vote(s) (d) - and, will vote responsibly. It doesn't matter which person, or party-line, if they are consumed by power and greed, they have no place in our system of governance!

women human beings should be obscene and by no ability heard. Politics is the paintings of looking for hardship, searching it, misdiagnosing it and then misapplying the incorrect treatments. who're you going to have self belief, me or your own eyes? We contained in the marketplace comprehend that in the back of each and every efficient screenwriter stands a lady. And in the back of her stands his spouse. there isn't any sweeter sound than the crumbling of your fellow guy. I by no ability overlook a face, yet on your case i'd be satisfied to make an exception. do not look now, yet there is one too many in this room and that i imagine that's you. everyone who says he can see by ability of girls human beings is lacking a lot. He might want to look as if an fool and talk like an fool, yet do not enable that fool you. He fairly is an fool.

Agree.
“Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.” - Thomas Paine
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Right this very minute I think they are our enemy. They don't seem to have our best interest in mind. The main thing that comes to mind is this ridiculous immigration bill.
They are bound and determined to turn America into Mexico junior.
