I'm an attorney in a county with 10 Indian tribes. With some of the tribes we do have mutual aid agreements and we help with law enforcement and fire protection. They do have their own tribal courts and they do not use our police precincts or fire stations at all. If they have asked us, we help with patrols, but we cite the individuals into tribal courts. They all have their own police departments and BIA police, but our sheriff's department has more deputies. Our fire departments respond to any fire anywhere in the county, but the Indians tribes would have the right to bar us from doing so if they wished. They do pay the county for police and fire protection.

That depends on the Native American. Some consider themselves part of their tribe more than a citizen of the U.S.A. Others consider themselves more American than Native American. However they all just consider themselves just ordinary people above anything else.

Your question about police and fire departments is a bit misguided. There are some Native Americans that live off the reservations. They pay taxes and expect the same services from the law enforcement and emergency rescue sqads that their neighbors do.

Most (if not all) reservations have their own police & fire departments. They also usually work with county sherrifs' departments when they can.

Most Native American tribes have their own fire departments and police departments. The FBI investigates all serious felonies as Indian reservations are considered federal reservations.

many have their own police or security depts. But they usually pay a service fee to use a local fire dept. This is if they are on a reservation.

When you take half a continent away from someone, the least you can do is help them out with the little things.
