don't go see a male doctor if you are uncomfortable. if the visit is urgent, find another female doctor temporarily. I wouldn't go to a male ob/gyn. I think theres something strange and wrong about a man going into a profession where he looks at naked women all day. Even if they act professional, its still a man! They are still attracted to women.

So, go ahead and schedule an appointment with another female doctor.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the doctor is a professional. It's not a sexual or titilating situation for the doctor to look at your genitals anymore than it is exciting for a dentist to look at teeth or a radiology technician to do a mammogram or any other medical professional. And while that comforts some people, it may not be the same for you.

That aside, there are excellent gynecologists who are men, and terrible gynecologists who are men. And the same goes for women. There should certainly be a nurse present in the room during the exam. I can certainly understand why you might be uncomfortable with seeing a strange man for the first time. Perhaps seeing if you could speak with him in his office before the exam (you know, with all your clothes on) might help. I've had bad gyn exams with male doctors and with female doctors. And I've had good exams with male doctors and with female doctors.

A good doctor is a good doctor regardless of gender though. I hope you can find a way to be comfortable with seeing him, and that you feel better soon.

I know you don't feel comfortable with the situation of a male being your gyn, I didn't either the first time. I was thinking to myself that men only become gyn's to have a free look at female "goodies" all the time. But it doesn't matter if it is a male or female that's giving you the exam both of their answers will be the same ( mostly). I have a male gyn and a female nurse is present when he starts the exams and she stays there until he is done and you get dress. You might have to request that a female nurse be present in the room the time of your exam. Maybe this will make you feel a little comfortable. If not then I think that it will be best if you just wait til your normal gyn comes back.

My gyn is a male. At first i was a little nervous about seeing him but after having a cervical cancer scare a few years ago and having many doctors look at it i don't care anymore. I found every doctor very kind, and polite

Just keep thinking that yes he has seen many before and many in the future.. he is not there to do a looky-lou and if you feel uncomfortable remember that when you have a baby everyone will be looking at it.. so you may as well get used to it now.

If you feel that uncomfortable have a female nurse present or bring a trusted female friend

When I was pregnant I was like NO MATTER WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE A FEMALE! I found one and I just didn't like her at all. My friend who had a baby like 6 months before me recommended a Doctor who was a male. At first I was hesitant but I gave him a shot just because he had such a great recommendation! Now I would see nobody else! He was the best Dr I could've asked for. A good Doctor will make you feel comfortable and it shouldn't matter if the Doctor is female or male.

I've always preferred having a female gyno. But last year I was in a situation where the only doctor available was a man. It really wasn't a big deal.
He's a doctor, he's a professional. Just like a female doctor, he sees vaginas all the time.
My advice is just get over it and you will never be caused undo stress again.

I have had two OB-GYNs who were men and I liked them both. Both of them had great bedside manners. They were good listeners and did things to put me at ease. They both were good at explaining things and answering my questions.

I don't think the sex of the doctor is as important as the way the doctor relates to and communicates with you. I think you should at least go to your appointment with an open mind. You will probably find out that having a male OB-GYN is okay.

I would rather not see a male ob/gyn also. I would try to reschedule with any female basically if it is something that needs attention asap. Or else reschedule with her if it is just the normal annual, you can get prescription refills over the phone.

I would wait. I know they are professionals, but still I don't want another man to look down below. I have a female doctor and wouldn't go to a man.

I went to a woman doctor one time and I was more uncomfortable with her than I was with my male doctor. At my doctor's at least he keeps you covered the female ripped the paper gown away and made the comment "we don't need this" I was thinking oh yes we do! when I was pregnant my doctor seen it more than my husband!
