Baseball fans unite, do what it takes to keep Barry Bonds out of the starting lineup for the all-star game. After all the crap he has put baseball through, why do fans keep voting for him? Before the most recent numbers, Bondsy was third in voting. Alfonso Soriano has recently passed him by a small margin, and as a Cub fan, I want him to get the spot....but vote for anybody to help Bonds fall.

OK....so we got a bunch of Bonds lovers on answers today...after ur accusations on Ruth and Aaron, I hate each person you mentioned, Sosa killed the Cubs, McGwire tarnished Maris, and Palmeiro (who I respected a lot) broke my heart. Your right, Bud Selig handled everything wrong....he should have got some balls and spoke out against Bonds and his record. Oh ya, screw Bud Selig for putting SOMETHING in place to control the steroid epidemic. At least now there is a halfway decent random drug testing policy that has caught a couple of surprises red handed. No baseball isn't a church full of saints but there are some good hearted people in the game who give back to the community they are a part of. What does Bonds do....he earns his paycheck, plays when he feels like it, and acts like an *******. Fine, I don't give a crap, don't vote for Soriano, just vote for someone who would represent the all-star game and give the game of basebal some pride.

"professionalism and dedicated allegiance to the game he has committed the last 20 some years of his life to"?
If he is a proffessional and dedicated to alleginance, let him say it. All I would like to hear from the man is
"I have not used steroids"
or
"I have used steroids"
If he would just say one of the above things there would be a whole lot of crap. Answers...that is all I want to hear as a fan of the game.
dedicated the last 20 years of his life.....ya lets talk dedicated to his teammates...nothing like blaming a teammate for using one of his drugs (Mark Sweeney). Ya I'd like to call the tattletale one of my teammates.

I'm happy to see that I've had a few people agree with me now. I was getting worried that I was the only person who felt the way I did. I hope I didn't offend anyone, over anything. I was at first just curious what kind of reaction I would get by asking this question. I really did think that EVERYONE felt the way I did. And then once I started getting some of the answers my argumentative attitude kicked in. Thank you to everyone who's answered so far....I still feel the way I feel (Barry is not getting a half a vote from me) and feel several (maybe a majority of people) agree with me, but a couple of you who disagreed with me do seem like legitimate knowledgable baseball fans, so I will accept and respect your answers.
My final argument....steroids are against the rules. I know Barry could have hit a lot of home runs without them. I just wish I knew how many he would have hit. That I'll (and we'll) never know.
Oh and Rosco, you have a deal.

I agree 100%. How come people vote for him. His numbers are barely there this year. But I think most fans are ready to move on from the steroid era. Blah, blah, blah, they never found out 100% for sure that the piece of crap used roids, but use your freaking head....the MAN USED STEROIDS... PERIOD.
The best way to move on is to keep him out of the all-star game. I think all fans would agree with me that it is time to forget about Bonds. Let him tarnish baseball, but lets enjoy the all-star game without him. Tony La Russa is a good man, and I think that he will keep him off the team when it comes time to pick rosters. Lets give him the choice and keep Bonds out.....
Vote for Soriano!!!

So why does Soriano deserve the spot... He hasn't done much this year. Everyone is so harsh on Bonds but I have said it before and I will say it again... If he doesn't have that 1 year where he hit 73 home runs and kept hitting his 40-50 would anyone be crying about the steroids.... Also look at it this way... Steroids can only add a little distance right... He still needs to hit the ball. Take his home runs away that barely cleared the fence that year... He still probably hits about 50-60...
If he was a nice sociable guy I don't think there would be any problems... Why doesn't anyone talk about David Ortiz.. Or did no one here him say he might have taken steroids, but he doesn't know cause it was a "protein drink" or some crap... Just get off Bonds, he is probably in his final year.. Let him enjoy it a little.

Im going to vote 25 times today after reading this. Bonds is the best player you will ever witness, he didnt put baseball through anything, Bud Selig did. Drugs and cheating have been part of baseball since the begining, dont put it all on one player. If you hate Bonds, then you better hate Babe for using a corked bat, Hank Aaron for Greenies, McGwire for Andro, Gaylord Perry for the spitball, Sosa, Palmeiro, and probably 90% of the rest of MLB players in the game. Baseball is just a game, not a church full of saints.
Not a Bonds lover, just a guy who loves to watch the game and realizes how its played. Im not buying into the media witch hunt that has occured and have even gained some respect for Bonds who still goes out there everyday against the criticts and still produces (not like he used to, but hes 43 years old!). how can you seriously keep the future Home Run King out of the All Star game thats played in his house? Even if he isnt voted in, LaRussa will bring him on.

Unfortunatley, even if the fans don't vote Bonds on, Tony La Russa will probably be forced to bring him on. He'll be scared of Barry and all his "backwards" San Francisco fans. As a Cardinal fan, I'm proud to say I like Tony La Russa and the way he conducts himself. Rather than do whats right, he'll probably want to avoid controversy and bring in Bonds.
Don't worry though cub_fan07...I think baseball fans woke up after seeing the first numbers, as you can tell Soriano did pass Bonds and has put a little distance between himself and Bonds. I think that distance will just grow even with the 25 votes for Bonds that the one guy's putting in for him.
I'll tell you what cub_fan07, if I vote 25 times for Soriano will you vote 25 times for Pujols (I'm getting a little worried about Fielder right there behind him))...together we can get in 50 votes a piece for each of them.
Vote for Albert....oh and Alfonso!!!

All Star game - Barry Bonds = A good thing for the game of baseball
All Star game + Barry Bonds = Continuing the crap we've put up long enough
Go ahead and vote for Barry 25 times today. I'll vote for Soriano 50 times.

wow i dont know why everyone rags on barry so much. Even before this "steroid circus" he was one of the best players of the last 50 years. What harm has he done to the game of baseball. If i remember correctly Ray lewis killed someone and he still starts in his pro bowl game. But Barry bonds allegedly takes steroids and he has officially scarred the game for ever. I just don't get it. I hope Bonds breaks the record and becomes a 1st ballot HOF

Fans vote for Bonds because as fans of 'the game,' they recognize his amazing ability. Off-field issues (including the roids one) should not take away from the game. Unfortunately media and sports center mentalities have clouded and tarnished the sport. Yes, its fun to comment on sports, should commentary seek out "EVIL or BAD" people though!?! Barry helped keep baseball alive,... name a person who has won more MVP awards! Or a person to stay with the same team longer at the cost of signing a larger contract. Or name a person who has taken more hits by the media for what?! He's not Pacman Jones, Rasheed Wallace, or even Giambi! He is a true professional. Shouldn't it mean something that his team-mates love him and say he's a great guy! Doesn't it mean anything that he is one of baseball's all time best hitters! I could take Roids, doesn't mean I'm even gonna get to play in college. The man is as blessed as you can be and carries himself with professionalism and dedicated allegiance to the game he has committed the last 20 some years of his life to... NOT the people that just sit on their duffs all day giving meaningless commentary to it.

I feel that Its two things 1) fans vote more on who they know rather than the player that deserve to go to the All-Star game (Baseball fans may do it the least but it still happens, basket ball is the worst at this) 2) people may hate him but I think the other people who answered are right, fans want to see him hit (why do you the All-Star Home Run Durby is such a big draw) people love to see home runs.

I agree with everything you have said. I could say some things but I'll just be repeating what you said in your question and details. I might not vote for Soriano, but I won't be voting for Bonds you can count on that. Real baseball fans don't only watch for homeruns and I hate to say it but REAL baseball fans are a dying breed.

Barry Bonds deserves to go to the All-Star game. Just because he does not cater to the media, sports or otherwise, has nothing to do with his athletic ability. Just because he doesn't grin and smirk like Paris Hilton or one of those over inflated egos, doesn't mean he is not entitled to votes. It should not be based on popularity like so many other awards. This is Pro Baseball-- not American Idol!!!
