60 mi^3 of petroleum will be wholly consumed by 2050. In 2051 cities will burn. Before you worry about a megayear into the future, worry about 68 million US Baby Boomers retiring by 2015. Their infinitely taxable wallets will slam shut as they demand $1.5 trillion/year in free eats and medical care. The Welfare State will implode.

By comparison, 2050 is hardly a worry at all.
