Your question is really a two-part one that could have no relation to the other.
For example, the home I grew up in was 7,000 square feet. My father still lives there and is currently adding on an additional 2,500 sq. ft. of living space. It was a large home to begin with, and now will be even more so. My father started his own oilfield company 32 years ago and has been a very successful business man ever since.
My in-laws are even more wealthy than my parents, and their largest house is likely to be only 3,500 sq. ft. However, they own three homes. Their original house is paid for, with a family member living there for free, they have a country home, and a new home they built about 2 years ago. Neither of them really drive luxury cars or buy expensive clothes, but they are multi-millionaires.
I had a childhood with many friends living in 6,000-10,000 square foot homes. It is just funny how some folks with money really like to show it off, while others live much below their means.

I was once in Steve Wozniak's house (co-founder of Apple Computers), back in the 80s when he was hitting it big. I don't know how many square feet it was, but it took at least five minutes of fast walking to get from one end to another. And his kids, who only visited every other weekend, had their own suite of rooms on their own split level... which had been entirely filled with balloons, floor to ceiling, for the benefit of a a half-dozen kids at a grown-ups party. I was far too impressed (and too young) to feel jealous.
I've been in many large mansions in some of the most expensive real estate in America, since then, for various parties and fundraisers. But either the decorating is so gaudy and grandly ugly that there's not much to envy, or I know too much gossip about the owners to envy their life at all... I tend to come back to my small apartment with an intense satisfaction for the little I have, because I've been able to amass it by myself, to my own tastes and sense of beauty.

It's hard to know who is really rich. Some very wealthy people live in very modest homes and drive average cars while some other people that want others to think they're rich borrow tons of money to buy big houses and fancy cars. Read "The Millionaire Next Door". You'll find out that people you thought were rich are really just in debt up to their eye balls.

I've been in a house which was half the size of a K-Mart, sitting on the Atlantic Ocean in Deerfield Beech FL. The man was a self made Billionaire, and one of the most genuine people on earth.

Believe you have erroneous idea of rich.
Good health, happy family and contentment at your job is really rich. As has been said money never buys happiness and peace of mind. It only creates more worry. Honest.
