sfgr8one - are you an idiot? Duper and Clayton were OK, not great. They are not HOF players. Who was the running back? That's right - nobody worth remembering. Rice, Smith, Irvin - all HOF players.

Jeff L - you make an interesting case.

Montana thrived in the west coast offense, it suited his arm strength. Jerry Rice is what made him great. How much of Montana's stats came from throwing to Jerry Rice? A safe guess would be 1/3. That is huge.

Aikman wasn't a stud - he did have tons of talent around him. He had skill guys at every position, his OL kept people away long enough that he could find Irvin, Harper, and Smith. Smith was the piece that made that team go, it wasn't Aikman.

So Aikman vs. Montana - easily Montana. But Montana isn't the best ever. He was just the face of a franchise who happen to win in his time there. If the Niners hadn't won a SB - Montana's name wouldn't come up in the great QB discussions.

10 years from now - Peyton Manning will hold this crown. Marino is a great quarterback - Top 3 easily.

Joe Montana is the best QB of all time. Troy Aikman doesn't even compare anywhere close to Montana.

Troy Aikman is only a big name for Cowboy fans.
Joe Montana is a legend.

Montana is #1
Aikman not even in the top 10

Well Aikman was great and he should and is on most top 10 QB lists but Montana was great at comebacks. Both won 3 Super Bowls. If you were to ask which team I would want the 90's Cowboys Super Bowl era team or 49ers 80's era Super Bowl team I'd pick Cowboys in a heart beat cause even the bench and special teams were loaded with high caliber talent not to mention possibly the greatest O-line in NFL history and all out football history.

I am a lifelong Cowboys fan, and I say that Montana was far superior than Aikman. Montana could run the 2 minute offense like no one else. They didn't call him "Joe Cool" or "Super Joe" for nothing. That guy was clutch. End of Story. Aikman a great run with 3 super bowl rings, and deserves to be in the hall of fame, but Joe Montana was better.

You must be a cowboy fan to even try and compare Aikman to Montana. Montana is obviously the better QB in this comparison.

Aikman? Are you kidding? Chongo said it best - Emmitt Smith made that team go, not Aikman.

Montana was good, but not great. Better than Aikman though.

Montana to Rice in real life was almost the same as it was in Tecmo Bowl. Rice caught everything thrown at him. That man is the greatest player of all time - Jerry Rice

Can you imagine Marino's numbers if he would have had Rice? That TD mark would've been alot higher.

Montana, but it's close.

Aikman had one of the greatest OL's to play behind and a dominant running attack.

Montana was piloting an offense that was new to the NFL and wound up with Jerry Rice at the other end of his passes.

4 rings to 3, the edge goes to Cool Joe..

Neither of those two are the all time best, but Montana was better than Aikman. Aikman had a great team and one of the best o-lines ever. Montana had the brains and the decisiveness.
Marino had all the stats and no rings.
All time best? Tom Brady. He'll win another Superbowl or two and this debate will be ended forever. He has never had the big players around him like Montana (Rice) or Aikman(Smith and Irving), but it'll be fun to watch what he does with Moss this season.

Joe Montana because he could win more games in the last 2 minutes.

Jeff L r you n idiot. Marino was great im not going to say he wasn't. But he had a ton of help. Ever here of Duper or Clayton. Sorry had to get that off my chest. You have to go with Joe. Troy is good but he wasn't even the best player on his team. Joe is the best EVER
