and are pregnant now by another man,can you give that child your maiden name? my ex-daughterinlaw finds herself in this situation.she and my son have 2 little girls together.she was seeing someone and did not realize he was married and also into drugs, so he will not be involved in his sons life.she has said she is using her maiden name because the father wants nothing to do with it or her.can she do this? it would be wrong to stick our family name on a child who is not of our blood.my son has remarried and would never accept her bi-racial child under any circumstances.i find this hard cause my 2 grand daughters are of course excited about having a baby brother.i just dont want world war 3 over this and i dont want my son to be ridiculed for his ex wifes choices, any advice?

First of all, who cares what race the baby is. It just sounds like you are more concerned about her having a bi-racial baby and giving it your last name. It sounds like your family needs to grow up! This is not the 1800's it is 2007, get over it! she can give it whatever name she wants. I feel for the baby, cuz sounds like noone is going to accept him/her except for the mother.

Racist.
There. I feel better.

Now on the name question: Legally in Michigan (or anywhere in the united states) you can name a child anything you want.
