Halloween. My family and I are originally from south Louisiana. We use to go to all the Mardi Gras parades, and get all dressed up in costumes, go to cookouts, and parties afterwards. I moved to Tennessee 17 years ago. I use to go for a visit twice a year, but haven't been in 6 years. I've always missed Mardi Gras.
Getting dressed up for Halloween, going to costume parties, cooking bizarre, spooky dishes is as close as I can get to the dressing up and cookouts we use to have.
