Technically the first team to ever win the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Ameteur Athletic Association Hockey Club in 1893. The first NHL team to win was the Toronto Arenas in 1918

Alright, I did this research aswell, and being a Canadian citizen and a HUGE Montreal Canadiens Fan I know this question, the answer is the Montreal Maroons, HOWEVER, this was not an NHL team, if you do a search of Wikipedia, it gives you a list of NHL teams to win and there were only 6 NHL teams, the first every "REAL" Stanley Cup was won by the MONTREAL CANADIENS.

The Toronto Arenas won it in 1918. Teams won the Stanley Cup before that, but they were not NHL teams.

in 1893 the Montreal AAA was the first to hoist the Mug but it was not called the Stanley Cup it was called the Challenge Cup. in 1918 the Toronto Arenas was the first to hoist the Cup known today as the Stanley Cup.

Montreal Amateur Athletic Association were the 1st stanley cup winners, which really sucks cause i hate the kids in my class who rub it into my face because i'm an Ottawa fan but Toronto sucks and they finished above Montreal this year!
