I've been on the Depo shot for the last year and a half.....when I went in to get my shot I decided to change birth control methods and I am now on the pill. (I have not had a period in over a year)

I've been taking the pill for 3 weeks now, and today I am suppossed to take my green pill before I go to bed. But what do I do if I am not on my period?? I shouldn't take the green pill right? I'm confused!! I know I am not pregnat...I am not sexually active right now, so I am not worried about that.....I just want to start regulating my period....and it doesn't look like it's working!!

Help!!

This is how the pill works. Your period starts *after* you start to take the green pills (could happen a few days after you start the green pills - could take up to 4 to 5 days after you start to take the green pills).

The non-green pills suppress your period. When you stop taking the non-green pills and give it a few days your period should start. It would be unusual for your period to start before you start the green pills (unless there is some spotting that occurs).

Therefore, take the green pills as instructed, give it about 4 to 5 days after you start to take the green pills and your period should start then.

You should take the pills as directed. Taking the 21 active pills, followed by the reminder pills. If you skip the reminder pills, and just continue on to a new pack (I'm assuming that you were saying that you would take the active pills for 21 days, and the without skipping any days go take active pills for 21 days...), then you are not taking the birth control correctly. For birth control to be effective, you should carefully and faithfully take the pills as prescribed.

If you are just starting the green pill tonight, then you should start bleeding in a day or two. It takes a couple of days off the hormone to start the period. And if it is your first month on the pills, perhaps even longer.
