Windows XP? If yes, how do I do this? I want to recover information from my account.

If you use the WinXP install disk you will be able to reinstall windows. You can choose an option to "Leave the current file system intact" However by doing so you may lose everything that is in your specific account. My suggestion is to take your hard drive out, and use it as a secondary drive in another computer...then dump all the information onto another hard drive. Then reinstall windows. This way if you do happen to lose everything you will have a backup of all of your documents. Personally I partition my drive so that I can put all of my music and documents one partition and windows on another. Just in case something like a windows failure occurs...i can just format the partition and start over without losing everything.

download a copy of ubuntu and burn it to disk on a working computer.
place it in the cdrom drive of the computer in question.
boot from it, and it will start the computer, then load the ubuntu desktop (Gnome, looks kinda like a mac) it will mount your hard drive, and you'll be able to access and burn your data to cd from there.
