I wish I knew the answer--at first glance it seems as though, perhaps, it is to let ourselves of the hook. Its like when you go on a diet and whoops! You bought a box of cookies! You said that you wouldn't but...well, might as well finish those cookies...then you can be good. Starting...tomorrow.
Tomorrow never comes.
At the same time, this isn't about us. We have forgotten the purpose of government and that is why they can push to pass this bill. We grumble, we complain, but ultimately we let big daddy G(overnment) have its way--this is not a slam against any party, but simply to say that power corrupts and if we aren't careful we will find that what Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said is quite true and that is simply that the most hopelessly enslaved are the ones who falsely believe they are free. It isn't what we want, but we are being told that it is what is best.
(I won't put quotes around that because I don't know the exact quote)

I don't know. What is funny is that BOTH sides don't like it. Pro-immigrant people don't like the fact that it essentially kicks illegal immigrants out of the country and makes it too expensive for them to get back. Anti-immigrant people... well, I am not sure why they don't like it. The bill provides for more border security, sends illegal immigrants back home, and makes it too expensive for them to get back. For the most part, the only Mexicans that will benefit from this are the very few that actually have money; namely those with degrees and skills. Indirectly, this bill does more to prevent illegals from coming into the country than not having a bill at all, so I'm confused by their reaction. In any case, well over 90% of Congress is re-elected each election, so whose fault is it? We keep electing these bozos, so it's our own fault.

The people are against it but the government is making money off of the illegals most likely. Illegal aliens are getting free health care, cheap college tuition, car loans, houses...I'm not saying they don't deserve it but why can't the all get together and fight for their rights in their own country. There's 12 million illegal aliens in this country and I dont believe one bit that the businesses that hired them know they arent illegal! How many of these undocumented immigrants have driven drunk and killed somebody or commited other crimes? Our crime has risen 14% over the last year. America is not worldwide babysitters. American needs to help its people first! I say fine the businesses that hired them and pay off some debt that way. Get them back to their own coutry.

Because the current immigration laws aren't working and need to be reformed, regardless of how little the people actually understand what is being legislated. If we don't make a new bill, the old laws will stand and they are creating a problem that no one wants to deal with. 'The American People' don't seem to understand that.

Because there are politicians who want to take credit for legalizing 12+ million people. That is enough votes to sway an election.

We need to allow people into this country legally. It is the land of opportunity and most people coming here are trying to save themselves and their families. If your children were starving because you could not get a job, would you not go where you could take care of them? I am a mother and I would.
