First child breast fed for a year. No colic or ear infections and for the last 10 years its a very rare occasion for him to get sick.
Second child breast fed for 4 mos. He has asthma and occasionally gets sick.
third and fourth (twins)One nursed for 2 weeks other nursed for a few days and the one that nursed for 2 weeks had colic and reflux after the switch to formula even though we tried several different kinds. As for their healthnothing major other than a few colds.

1. Breastfed for a week, then switched to formula due to production complications.
2. She's had two colds in her nearly six months of life, no ear infections and the colds cleared up in a week or so each.
3. She's never had colic or reflux- she's happy and comfortable.

I did not breastfeed my daughter for long because I had to go back to work. So she has been formula fed since 2-3 weeks or so. She is eight months now and has not had any ear infections or colic or reflux problems. Maybe it's the type formula you are giving him. You might want to check with your doctor on an alternative type of formula you could/should use.

I did both with my son. He never had a cold until he turn one. He just recently had his first ear infection and he is 3 yrs old now. But he did have colic and reflux problems. I think it is the fomrula has something to do with it.

Are your children in daycare, or do you keep them home? That makes a huge difference. Even breastfed babies get colds and ear infections when they're surrounded by other sick kids in a daycare center...

To answer your question:

I bottle fed both my kids. First son had recurring ear infections and a few colds. ENT said that it was because of the shape of his eustacean tubes, and that made him more prone to ear infections that many children. Second one will be 2 in July and has yet to have an ear infection. He's had one cold. First son was in daycare, second one wasn't.

Both were colicky and had reflux. First son benefitted from hypoallergenic formula. Second son was on Zantac until 4 months old.

My daughter is breastfed and she is 10 1/2 months old.
She has only had 2 colds and no ear infections.
She has absolutely no colic or reflux problems.

I saw my cousin the other day and she had her baby 4 months ago. She is formula fed and she has already had 2 double ear infections, she is taking breathing treatments and the doctors think she has allergies and asthma.

I'm sure not all formula fed babies have that many problems. But it convinced me to keep breastfeeding and when I have other children, I won't think twice about breastfeeding.

1st: Breastfed for 6 months, then formula for 6. No ear infections, a few colds, no colic or reflux.

2nd: Exclusively breastfed, currently 7 months and still only breastfed, no supplements or solids. No ear infections, no colds, no colic, no reflux.

1) Breastfeed, still am at 15 months
2) Maybe two colds, no ear infections. The colds were very mild even though they almost killed me.
3) My son has reflux but it is manageable with parenting and frequent feeds. As soon as I started to feed more often the pain from reflux went away. At 12 months I tried to reduce milk feeds to every 2 hours, the spitting up came back.
