So it seems that in some ways she is and in other ways she isn't. She has done a lot for women, especially helping them to break free of roles and stereotyping in the eighties, but has also obviously offended some people and rankled their nerves.

She is a rolemodel for marketing herself over and over and being very profitable at it. That is the only thing I can say positively about any of her roles. I like her, I like her music, but I don't think she is who I want my daughters to be like at all.

Those of us old enough to remember when she first emerged in the early 1980s with her "Like a Virgin" album recall all the talk in the media about this woman as the next feminist icon. She was outspoken, was unashamed about liking sex, and was career oriented rather than family oriented. This was all new for society in the early 1980s.

Not so much in 2007, when all these things are considered normal for young women. But, they wouldn't be considered normal if it weren't for pioneers like Madonna.

Yes, extremely. And to all those ignorant fat bitches saying "she a whore!!!" If you look at real whores like Britney Spears or strippers and compare them with Madonna...when Madonna sings about sex and such she's not doing it because she wants guys to think she's easy...she's trying to make a point deeper than that.

And she sings all kinds of songs about feminism like "What it feels like for a girl" and "Human Nature"

I think Madonna is a feminist role model because she is proving to all those stupid biblethumpers out there that if a man can be a "god fearing christian while screwing everything he can find, so can a woman"

Not particularly... I don't know... I mean, the woman is successful, she's still relevant in her late 40's when society deems any woman over 30 as useless, and she owns her sexuality (Human Nature is an AWESOME song).

But aside from that, there's nothing she has done that is particularly feminist.

of course she is! she's amazing.
anyone who says no just doesn't like her her because she is too sexy or out spoken. but there is nothing wrong with that.

my favorite quote of hers is "I am tough, abitious, I know exactly what I want and if that makes me a b!tch...Ok then."
