Also, sexuality is an action, not a state of being.

If you want to be gay, fine. No one really cares. But is is not due minority group status.

You are correct. Sexuality is not a race.

You are incorrect, however, about sexuality as a state of being or being a minority group status. Sexuality is not a verb, for one thing, so it cannot be an action. Sexuality is the state of being of a certain sexual preference. By definition, that makes it a state of being. As far as being a minority group, gays are in the minority. There are more people that are straight than gay, so by definition gays are a minority group status. You can't decide they are not due this, because they simply are by definition. You can no more decide that white is not a race or that female is not a gender. They just are.

I agree it's not a race, but it is a culture. We had to create it to deal with being a minority.

We are distinct in a way, like a race, and like a race we are all tied by one unifying identifier.

Sex is an action, sexual orientation is endemic to the individual, it is immutable, like race.

So we shouldn't be given minority status based on race, we are not technically a race, but we are a distinct group, with a unifying identifier, which is seen by many as some form of moral quantifier. So until that moral quantifier is gone, we require special protection, it's that simple.

If we were treated like everyone else, like you suggest, we wouldn't have any need of it. But not everyone is as open minded as yourself, and full integration of all sexual orientations under one unified spectrum, as in by having an LGBTS culture, is still quite a long way off.

So until we have full integration and acceptance, and while we remain vilified for something we've no control over, we require special protection.

So until the world, especially the western world, catches up with your line of thinking, that "noone really cares", until that point to say we require no special treatment simply because we are not a race is illogical.

We are not a race, but we are still a minority, and we still get picked on for it.

Of course its not a race Being a monority doesn't refer to race, but also financial standing, religion, disablity, or a sexual minority. A minority is a sociological group that does not constitute a politically dominant plurality of the total population of a given society. A sociological minority is not necessarily a numerical minority — it may include any group that is disadvantaged with respect to a dominant group in terms of social status, education, employment, wealth and political power

It is due minority group status because it is a segment of the population that tends to be discriminated against. When people become tolerant of others and can learn to respect each other then I would be inclined to say that gays are not a minority but until then we deserve equal protection just like everyone else.

Sexuality is not a race, but it is as innate as the colour of your skin. It is not simply an action, as sexuality exists even if a person never has sex; so gay people deserve rights.

Um...who thinks sexuality is race? That doesnt even make sense. It's SEXUALITY. An orientation. And you're right. It doesnt deserve minority group status. It deserves 100% heterosexual norm status. Meaning every right they have, we should have as well.

it's not a religion or a gender either. It is what it is. A group should receive minority group status if they have been discriminated against and denied rights and privileges that they are entitled too as members/citizens of the larger group . Its all about protecting individual rights, privacy and freedom.
