The place is much better now, even though there's a lot of violence there. (Oddly enough, Baghdad is safer than Detroit, but that's another story...)
When Saddam was in charge, there was no running water, infrastructure was falling apart, people were tortured daily and children were starving. It was a total mess.
Now that we've freed millions, they are able to rebuild a nation that was falling apart.
Under Saddam it was a terrorist training ground, so that has been stopped. He was working on nuclear bombs, so that's been stopped. The problem now is that Iran is shipping bombs and weapons into Iraq, but I'm confident we can stop the terrorism there eventually.
It'd be nice if they could do more themselves to protect against terrorism. We just don't have the patience apparently.

Iraq is much better now. Yes, I know that the news shows the contrary but then again how often do you see something "good" in the news?
We must all take into account that the country has gone through a lot of changes and major changes as such take time to show. I'm sure we all know many here at home that have started businesses, been involved in politics, community events, neighborhood watch, or any other events that involve people. Making things run smooth take time under normal circumstances. We now expect Iraq, a country that changed not only the way they ran its government for decades, but also the way of life to be fixed over night. Oh, let me mention that on top of that they have all the security issues of WAR to deal with.
In any new event there exists a predictable time table in which it must endure. Take for example attending a new class or starting a new job, we will all go through what we call the learning curve. That learning curve involves many struggles of new people and getting to know them. It's at that time that one learns who he/she likes and based on that learns how to work with them. Eventually you move to a molding stage where all the issues and problems have been resolved. At that point things start to become smoother and progress at a faster rate. In a normal world that takes time, just add a war and bunch of terrorist trying to ensure that you fail on a daily basis, would you be able to make things better overnight?
To call it a terrorist state would imply that its current government was supporting terrorist activity, which it is not. Most of the terrorist activity, it appears has been introduced from neighboring countries.
Changing how a country operates will take several years, but yes Iraq is better and it now has new hospitals, clinics, police departments, fire departments, Human rights organizations, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and so many other wonderful things to include protection of women that we all take for granted on a regular day. We have a responsibility as humans to help those in need, they are moving forward and eventually will be a country that one can visit and appreciate. By the way, there is a lot of biblical history there too, those sites are being protected and will eventually be open for tourist to see.

It was a terrorist state when Saddam was in power. It is a terrorist battleground now.
There is a difference.

Some things get worse before they get better. I just really hope Iraq is one of those things.
