I did a paper round for the local free paper after school and it was the worst job I've ever had. I only lasted 4 weeks because it took literally 4/5 hours. I had to deliver to about 250 houses up and down hills plus I had to go home 3 or 4 times to get more papers. I didn't mind the work itself, but the round was just far too long!

I had an evening paper round for just over a year when I was 13/14. I loved the extra cash but the best thing about it was the tips at Christmas. You make a fortune!

I did a paper round years ago, hated Wednesdays when I had everyones Western Mail treble edition or something to lug up a hill. I used to think folk were lazy as hell for putting me through that.
Horrid pervy newsagent man used a car and had no sympathy for a 14 year old weakling having to walk a mile with those wednesday papers!

I was lucky and had an after-school route of about 9 blocks total. Only bad thing was when it rained or snowed (I was young enough then that I didn't mind the snow like I do now. HA). Then, on Fridays, I had to collect what was owed to me/the newspaper office (if the person didn't have it that week, my income was less because I had to pay the newpaper office what was owed to them first and then I got to keep what was left over). Christmas was nice because all the customers would give me little gifts or extra money.

it was great as i knew every week i'd have £5 in my pocket to spend on whatever i wanted my son who's 13 has just started one and loves it for much the same reason cept he earns £18 a week it takes him 25 mins to do every morn which to me is nothing mine used to take an hr at least it also helps you understand the value of money as you've earned it

Ah. Early mornings, wind, rain, snow. And all for 8/6d per week. That's 8 shillings and 6 (old) pence per week. Which is about 43p.
The good old days? Maybe they were. Who knows!
