The answer to this is fairly old...
It was released that the medical condition was mental, not physical. Paris was being traumatized over the jail experience because she is so used to being pampered, so her psycologist went to the Sheriff and explained that she would have a nervous breakdown if he didn't let her out. So, the Sheriff let her out.
In other words, the serious medical condition was being a spoiled, whimpy brat.
Honestly, that's all it was. I'm not saying this as a joke or to bash on Paris...that's seriously all it was.

I reckon she has a severe allergy to facing the truth, and being held responsible for her callous attitude to others. Paris, sadly, is a sad example of what uncaring parents can buy for their unloved children, a stern warning to us all perhaps. I see it everyday in the shops, a kiddie throws a tantrum, that would have earned me a clip around the ear when I was young, the parent is too busy chatting with Friends, so the kid is given whatever they want off the sweet shelf. When all they really want is a loving friendly mom to talk to, not to be fobbed off with goodies, the parent says 'well I give her everything she wants what more can I do'. Yawn, will these selfish parents never learn? Yes, Paris is a disgrace, but like mother like daughter, that's how she learnt to be what she has become. Look at your own daughter first, is she a nice child? if so, its to your credit and love that she is. If not! welcome to tinsel land and join the Hilton crowd, but don't knock them, as the only difference is they are richer, well educated, and damn well ought to know better.

I think its totally unfair that Paris was released from jail. Just because she's a spoiled, rich celebrity doesn't mean she's above the law. The president isn't even above the law! At least she still has to pay for for her jail time. But in house arrest! She's in a mansion!! What kind of house arrest is that?!?!?! She can probably have all her little pals over like Nicole Richie and stuff, and she probably even has a pool! That's not house arrest!!

Probably extreme emotional distress at being in jail. Gee. The sheriff who released her is in big trouble with the judge who returned her to jail; his job is in jeopardy.

Claustrophobia--a morbid reaction to narrow enclosures. Furthermore, the gut feeling that her crime was too venial to deserve imprisonment may have elicited pity--even from a sheriff.
