Actually there are a lot of such sites. you can try;
www.downpaymentsolutions.com/first_time_home_buyer.shtml www.mass.gov/dhcd/components/housdev/want/first_t.HTM
home.houston.rr.com/lonniestapp/form/1sttime.htm
www.irs.gov/publications/p530/index.html
www.hud.gov/buying/index.cfm

The above sites cover from loans, to buyer agents, to IRS answers, and HUD info. Good Luck.pp

What I would suggest is to go to you bank/credit union and have them pull your credit. You can get one for free once a year. Have a mortgage broker look over it and see what you need to improve on. That would be the first step. Then when you're ready see how much you Pre-approve for. Most banks & credit unions have classes for first time home buyers. That would be better than any website because it's more specific to your area.

The best site for consumers in my opinion is Realtor.com. There's a wealth of info on it. That is an unbiased place to start, and it's not a cover for a specific company's site. I'm a real estate agent out in the West, but I'm not going to try to steer you in any direction, and I hope others feel the same!
