to start this off i'm a true red sox fan...

i'd stay w/ lowell...and i'd keep youkilis because both can hit...and youkilis can play third as well...and ortiz can still play first and DH....if i were boston i think the shortstop position is the biggest one to fill...hell maybe youkilis can be at SS, lowell at 3B and ortiz at 1B and trade for a power player for DH.....i mean i don't think we need hinske and/or pena....one or the other to bench for JD Drew...i'd say keep Pena because he has more power and hits from the right side (better against lefties)...so we can trade hinske lugo and maybe crisp for someone like carl crawford and someone who can really hit.....

i'd like to see a shortstop w/ more speed or at least a better OBP than lugo...but i'd also like to see a more consistent outfielder than drew, hinske, pena......hell i'd like to see someone better than crisp as well....

i think our pitching has been wonderful...papelbon and okajima have been amazing..most of the sox have done well....but i think we need a better combination of speed and OBP from lugo and crisp....and more hitting than what we get from drew, pena and hinske

we might also want another left handed starting pitcher (besides jon lester)...so i see trading tim wakefield or julian tavarez...i'd go w/ wakefield to trade because that way we get rid of mirabelli was well....and we can probably get a better more usefull backup catcher....(mirabelli isn't good from the plate) and we can maybe get a left handed starting pitcher to mix it up.....

that's my analysis to date...GO BOSTON....yankees suck.......a-rod swallows

**and to comment on what the last guy said...lowell as been hitting amazingly well...and lowell/youkilis combined have been doing better than ortiz/ramirez combined for a while....lowell can last a few more years.... plus we also have a young 2B in pedroia...and a UT player in CORA...we can even put him at SS in case we deal lugo away....i wonder who we can pick up for wakefield, mirabelli, lugo, hinske, drew, crisp etc

Mike Lowell won't be with the Red Sox next year since his contract is up this year. They are already paying him $9 million a year. Do you think they are going to sign a 30 something third baseman 10+ million a year? Youkillis will be the third baseman next year and the Red sox will get a first baseman in the oiffseason who is a power hitter.

Youk should play third next season and the sox should get a power bat at first. Lowell is getting old and his defense is suffering as seen with his 11 errors already this season.

Go BoSox!!! I think the Red Sox should keep Mike Lowell. If they can't, go after Alex Gordon of KC. He has a lot of natural defensive talent and a solid bat to go with it. It's a shame he went to the Royals, who have a poor team (and management) overall.

What's wrong with Mike Lowell? He was an All Star 3rd baseman in the NL before his nasty little slump, and it appears as if he's adjusted to AL pitching just fine. The free agent market isn't going to yield much at 3rd anyway.

What's wrong with Mike Lowel?
Could always move Youkliss back to 3rd and let Ortiz man 1b, if you don't mind the range and the errors.

Could always look to Oakland to trade Chavez if you have any decent pitching prospects.

Mike Lowell. He is leading the team in RBI and HR right now so IMO he should get the job for next year.
