No. I think the old Stephanie was let go because they did not like the character at that point and the direction she was going in. The old Stephanie was sweet and wholesome. She wanted nothing more than to have her parents back together. However, she was just too soft. There was nothing deep there, which is why they dropped the character.
I think they decided to go in a different direction by bringing Stephanie back. They had to bring on a totally new Stephanie in general. One with a bit of a history and a chip on her shoulder. By having a different actress, they were able to reinvent Stephanie into a selfish brat. I think that it is not important that the new actress is prettier. If anything, the new actress is just better at portraying the character the way TPTB wanted.

The old Stephanie was pretty. Not a knock-out. Just pretty. She was also very conservative. The old-Stephanie HATED Chelsea. This new one dresses like a prostitute and is a wild child. She and Chelsea are good friends. I think the old Stephanie was a better actor, too.
Why did they even bother bringing Stephanie back if they were going to change every single little thing about her? It would have been nice if they could explain the changes. Like say Stephanie had a near-death experience and afterwards decided to let her hair down and enjoy life a little more. The only thing the new-Stephanie has in common with the old-Stephanie is that they share the same parents. That's it.

I liked the old Stephanie better, she fit the part. the new Stephanie is bitter with a bad attitude. At least the old Stephanie tried to be nice when chelse was a brat. The new Stephanie just doesn't seem to fit the part, besides she is to upity for a race car driver

I hate when soaps change actors/actress so drastically! I hadn't watched in a few weeks cos was moving, then dvr'd...and was like?? wth??/ this is stephanie?? Not only does she look different..she acts different. I liked the old red head..to a point.
Now, this one is a whore..and pretty.. what is up w/that? and why are they suddenly friends?
didn't they both fight over the race car driver dude whom is now paying to make this flight biz take off??
gad, sounds so funny, but that is why I love watching the soap..since I was 3...only thing on tv that isn't a repeat! :)

I think they wanted to take the character in a new direction, and the old Stephanie, whom I loved, just didn't look nor act like someone we could hate.

I can't stand the new Stephanie, I think she is a brat and a slut. I hate the way they are writing her. I liked the old Stephanie much better! (She was prettier too!)

I don't like what they did with her character. I do think that they had planned on turning her into a "wild child" and the old Stephanie didn't fit for that. Oh and Why don't her & Max race anymore? Nascar drivers don't have the time to be slutty flight attendants and change oil full time.

I think they wanted to change her image and they need a new girl to do it I guess, the old Stephanie didn't look like a bad girl.

I preferred the old Stephanie, but I don't think she would have been convincing as a stupid sex-crazed ho.
Not uncommon for soaps to change the actor when they are changing the personality of the character.
