normally health care professionals tell you to start taking birth control pills the Sunday after your period starts.That way you know you are not pregnant as you have just had a menstrual cycle. If you started at any other time it is possible to get pregnant. You should always use a backup method such as condoms or spermicide when starting a new method for the first ten days.
