In my teen years, it was either Madonna or Cyndi Lauper, in college I loved Sarah Brightman (still do). But is there another diva out there with the same flavor as these three? Do not suggest Britney please...(an embarrassment to Pop music)

I'm not sure if there are any singers with that "flavor" anymore ...
Try a change with either Sarah Mclachlan, Chantal Keviazuk or Sheryl Crow.
Maybe have a hoedown with KD Lang ...;>)
Or, if you want something from way back in time, maybe the group Heart from the 70's with the Wilson sisters.
Female pop icons are very rare these days .... especially the good ones.

Definitely Sarah McLachlan. For most of my life I have been all about the Nirvanas and Tools and Filters of the world but I've always had a soft spot for a few ladies. Other than Sarah there's Liz Phair and Tori Amos. I hope that helps but if you don't already have it you need some Sarah McLachlan. I will now go back to pretending I have my edge.

You need to drop the TV remote that is tuned to "Idol" and all that other horses**t. Go to the library nearest you that has a good CD selection and check out anything by Aretha Franklin, Carole King, or Linda Ronstadt (older 70's stuff). If you are truly looking for good music inspiration, I guarantee you will find it in the songs of these three ladies. Enjoy!!!!

Wanna hear the sad thing? If it's the flavor of the month diva you're looking for, in 2007, they're all being churned out by American Idol. DEFinitely sub-par quality....but no one minds, apparently.

Daphnis et Chloé by capacity of Maurice Ravel is the two calm and intense. So is Claude Debussy's la Mer. especially plenty all Tchaikovsky is calm and intense. Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade and Capricco Espagnol is merely too. i could desire to additionally advise Igor Stravinsky's Firebird(particularly the Finale) and his Le Sacre du Printemps. to call some... Ravelinsky

Although I'd never put her in the "diva" category, Kirsty MacColl is a female pop icon definately worth revisiting
