Like it was yesterday! I was in the McDonalds drive thru with my mom & they broke in the middle of the song. Mom couldn't drive, we were both crying, so she pulled into a parking space until she calmed down enough to drive home.

I can remember being in jr high and there was a kid named John Leonard and the next day after the shooting--and when we heard about it - one girl thought we all said John Leonard had been shot and killed and she liked him and she really started freaking out--then we sain no-John Lennon and she then said-oh who's that? I was never a huge Lennon fan but i do like some of the Beatles songs and some of Lennons.

I was in my late 20's- so i grew up with Beatles music- it really was the soundtrack for my life. When Lennon was shot, I had a shop in Atlanta, Ga. He was shot at 10:50 at night- on Dec 8 1980. On the morning of Dec. 9 I opened my shop as usual- and not one person came in all day! There was no internet then- only radios and television- no cable or satellite TV or cell phones. You had to get your news off of radio or television, and it was non stop. I could not take it so i turned everything off for a few days. I played his song 'Imagine" and thought how fitting it was for the situation. He had predicted that someone would shoot him well before it happened. Of course the shooter came from Atlanta, and everyone who came into the shop on Dec. 10th talked about what a dick the guy was, and how everyone wanted him dead. People were crying for weeks. It is always sad when someone gets killed because the killer wants to be famous. Many many years after his happened, I met a lady who had the shooter's signed photo in her wallet! She had gone to High School with him and wondered if she could sell his photo. I told her she was a ghoul-but i was also sure that if someone could authenticate the signature, she could sell it. I was so grossed out by her- I never talked to her again. Imagine!

I was in grade school and we had music class that day. My music teacher was all depressed and we just sat around listening to John Lennon songs for about a half hour before she sent us back to class. Overall it freaked me out.

Oh yah. I was living in Manhattan, just miles from where he was shot at the Dakotas. It was devastating, everyone was so sad. It's still sad.
Here are the news clips from the night he died:
