A sequence is formed by the three repeating integers that follow. What is the sum of the first 18 terms in the sequence?

4, 1, -3, ...

(B) 12
(C) 18
(D) 30
(E) -12


The answer *should* be (B)12 but how? and why? Makes no sense!

Add those three numbers: 4 + 1 - 3 = 2. Since you want the sum of the first 18 numbers, you get 6 groups of the first three. 6 * 2 = 12.
