i asked basically the same question a few months ago, but in the religion section. most seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem, or that they would be seen as demons. lol.

but i was interested in a chapter from the bible someone mentioned which describes what some believe to be a UFO siting, ezekiel chapter one. "As I looked, behold, a whirl-wind was coming from the north,
a great cloud with fire flashing
forth continually and a bright
light around it, and in its midst
something like glowing metal in
the midst of the fire."

he goes on to describe the beings inside

pretty interesting, i thought

What kind of "Life"? --Slime Mold? Or, intelligent life? And for that matter: what kind of intelligence?

If it's bacterial goo, they'd probably say it was only further proof that God created us alone in his image.
If it's a planet full of "intelligent" but not technologically adept creatures (like dolphins or something), they'd probably be dubious but give the same response ans above. They might add some nonsense about the "glory of God's handiwork"--but we're still on top.

If it's a technologically adept, communicative civilization---well, I'd LOVE to see that! Especially if they have their own religion! The fundies would work in a feverish delirium to prove that either the aliens are mistaken, OR that both religions are in fact the same, and have the same God. But think of all the new and tricky questions that would bring up! (Like, Did Jesus die on your world, too?)

That would be fascinating to watch.

I would love to see that happen because I think a lot of religious people would really freak out. Fundies are committed to the notion that we are made in the image of God. That makes us special. That means there are no others equal or superior to us. If we found out that we were just one of many intelligent species, they would panic.
The fundies, whether Christian or Muslim would be doing some heavy backpedaling trying to make sense out of it while still preserving their scripture of absolute truth. I would be curious about Hindus, though. I don't think it would disturb their devout types. They seem to have a much more comprehensive view of the cosmos.
Buddhists and Jews I can't be certain. I have never met a fundamentalist of either.

An intelligent religion would say that since God created the whole universe than all creatures are the sons and daughters of God.....it really is that simple.

They would stick their fingers in their ears, close their eyes and yell that it is all an "atheist conspiracy", you know just like evolution, global warming, the moon landing, the spherical earth, the big bang, gravity, air and anything else remotely scientific.
