No preference with brand (but no Macs)
Using it for uni and games
Mainly desktop replacement (take it around once in awhile)
Good battery Life (min 3 hrs)
Somethin with a glossy finish like the HP pavillions
Needs to have around 120GB and a DVD-RW

Ive been looking at the HP pavillion series, the 6000's, they are pretty good, but someone told me that toshiba was more reliable. Not sure really what to look for..

There is a problem with a couple of your requirements. You say you want something good for games, and something that is a desktop replacement. That is certainly doable, but the problem comes in the next requirement, minimum 3 hours battery life. To be good for games, you need a fast CPU and a powerful graphics card. The problem is that those two things take power to run, hence you are going to have a hard time getting 3+ hour battery life.

I am not sure just how into games you are, if you really want good performance in new 3D games, you are going to have to spend a bit of money on a laptop. Get back to me with a little more info on how powerful you want this computer to be and I will see if I can help you out further.

Your really would know by looking at them. Visit a store that has a no-hassle return policy like Staples and Costco. (Circuit City charges 15% on returns). At Staples, look at the Toshiba laptops. Notice the size of the screen and the weight. Then you will decide. Toshiba would be my first choice, my 2nd choice would be HP. Staples carries HP too.

But you won't get a good laptop from DELL.. they are junk. You also can't see a DELL, since they are not sold in stores.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I would recommend a Acer. Most Acer's have about 512mb of shared video memory and they are not that expensive so if you do want to return it, it wont cost that much.

Or you could just build your own computer at www.cyberpowerpc.com.

You customize every aspect of it and there is a 30 day no restocking fee.

You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. Toshiba makes the best laptops.

I've got an HP and it hasn't given me any problems at all. Only problems I've had have been Microsoft's fault.
