I don't know where you are writing from, but in the U.S., the demand is very high and the supply of accountants is quite low. It seems that Accounting Systems is a huge area right now.

accounting is expected to represent facts so the investor/lender can trust the info provided by the accountant as authentic. there should not be a big goof like enron, where the accoutning firm makes a million and signs on any balance sheet without asking questions. but I thnink finance and accouting have a future

Accounting is an extremely great field to be in right now and I don't anticipate that will change anytime soon.
