It only offends me when woman are not discreet about it. I don't mind a woman feeding her child but it should be done in a respectful discreet way. My guess would be there have been woman nursing in places you have been but you did not realize it because they did it in a proper way!

Why should it offend you ? What are breasts for ? - to feed babies. It is the most natural thing in the world and I feel you should think this through and work to try and get over your initial reaction to it. Why are you uncomfortable about it ? I wonder if you will feel differently if/when you and a partner have a baby ?

It is difficult enough to succeed at breastfeeding, especially your first child, with the added pressure of the general public's discomfort or even censure. There is solid scientific evidence that it is the best start for babies and we should all, as a society, do all we can to facilitate it.

Babies sometimes get hungry at inconvenient moments and need feeding then and there. Also, mothers like to feel included and welcomed by society and not to have to skulk somewhere and remove themselves from company in order to feed their little ones. Especially to some stinky loo - would you want to eat your lunch in one ?!

Please, think about it, don't just react.....

Not offended as long as it's discreet. The baby has to eat somewhere and toilets are not generally nice places to feed. I'd rather see that than someone eating with their mouth open at the next table! I've fed both my babies out and about, in various countries, and never had a complaint. It's not too difficult to wear suitable clothing and turn your back to the crowd a bit. Most people never even notice.

That is a horrible attitude!!!! breast feeding is one of the most natural and beautiful things in the world, it is the healthiest way for a baby to get food and it is also healthy for the new mum. the bond it creates between mother and baby is amazing, and whats the problem anyway as long as the mother is comfortable why should you be offended?! what exactly is it about breast feeding that is offencive 2 you?? have you never seen a naked breast b4?! or have you never seen someone eat b4?!

i have been breastfeeding for 7 and a half months. I have breastfed my son in many public places, but i have to say that most people around me don't even now i'm doing it. Nothing is exposed as i wear appropriate clothing, and it is very discreet. You don't have to take your top off to do it!

My local mothercare have a feeding room but it doubles as a changing area, and the nappy bins are never emptied. It's disgusting and i would never feed my son in there. I don't eat my dinner in a smelly toilet!

Britain has the lowest breastfeeding rates around. When women breastfeed in public, discreetly and with no fuss, it can only help other young women to grow up accepting it as the norm. It's very sad that it is even an issue.

Well, I'm a mom who's currently nursing, and I sure hope it doesn't offend anyone. I'm not whipping it out to be an exhibitionist - I'm doing it to feed my baby. I'd assume people would rather I nurse her than let her scream her hungry cry ;) I try to be discreet, and for the most part I think noone ever notices. But to be fair, babies who are bottle fed can be fed in public, shouldn't we allow the same courtesy to breastfed babies?

A woman suggested I do it in the bathroom. Yuck. Hold my baby on a public toilet and nurse her inside a stinky stall? No way.

I am a mother of three children and I did nurse all of them, but I was never comfortable nursing in public. I have seen mothers nursing their children and it does not offend me. I had always said I will never nurse while sitting on a toilet if there wasn't any privacy. If that would have happened that there wasn't anywhere to nurse, you betcha I would be out in the open with it. No offense here, it is part of nature and is the healthiest and most natural thing a mother can do for her baby.

You will probably see by the responses to my question that this is a very sensitive subject. The news seen probably refers to greater rights for breastfeeding mums in England. My view is this. I didn't have the confidence to feed my babies in public and admire those who do, greatly. It is the best and healthiest way to feed your child. My only thought would be for the mums who would like to be more private when feeding, like myself. I was put off and changed to the bottle because of lack of privacy and feeling intimidated. More provisions should be made for people who feel this way. 'Discreet' breast feeding should be encouraged in every sense of the word.

Not offended by breastfeeding at all. Wish more women would do it so that breastfeeding would be normalized instead of hidden in a dark closet or the bathroom(yuck). I breastfeed my baby wherever I am whenever he is hungry, without a blanket covering his head, and I could care less what anyone thinks. If someone has a problem with it they can not look, go to the bathroom, or cover their head with a blanket!

Why should it offend you - it is none of your business, how a mother cares for her child is nothing to do with you, why would you be looking anyway?

If the mother does not feed her child then the child may cry and scream and that definitely would be offencive. it's a shame that a lot of women feel they should bottle feed or if they are breast feeding that they are confined to the home in case someone should deem it their right to take offence at something that is none of their business

The only thing that offends me is that this 100% natural action can be seen as a problem.
I know a lot of men see breasts as a plaything, but feeding is their only biological function.
Does the site of a calf suckling on a cow offend?
How about a kitten suckling?
I would guess, no, so why people?
