Yeah, you do. Having goals puts you in a different mental state and will move you to do things you never thought you could do. So find something you might enjoy and move towards it! Don't become like most people and just float through life.

To quote Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, "We have so much to do and so little time...no, wait, scratch that, reverse it." If you really think about what it, you only have a handful of goals, and they don't take that long.
1)Grow up
2)Find food and shelter
3)Get married and have kids (optional)
4)If doing 3, help your kids achieve 1 and 2, and provide 2 to your family until they leave.
5)Die.
1 through 4 could easily take 50 years, and if you skip 3-4, you could do that in 20-25 years. So we need goals and a purpose that could take our whole life to achieve, to fill the extra time and make our time on earth seem important. Purpose is an illusion our minds create, but it's one that works for the better.

Yes, we all need a purpose. Each of us may have a different view of the purpose.
For some, the purpose or I call it a reason to exist, is simple such as taking care of your garden, for others it is a goal they feel they have to reach in business. Saving money for the purpose of a vacation, or retirement. Getting a better job, saving for a home.
If you get up in the morning and have no job, no hobby, no interests, no reason to exist - you go into a deep depression or vegetate.
If you are having a problem finding a purpose, you need professional help, friend or family member who can guide you. Self help can also be attained by asking yourself questions such as "What do I enjoy? What do I feel comfortable with? Do I have any particular talent? Am I happy with doing nothing? If you have the answer to any of these questions, even doing nothing, can be your purpose.

The human mind has this concept of all of us having a purpose because for many of us, it is the only standing reason of which we are still alive. It keeps us going and gives us hope when we need it the most. I think, though, that in a sense it is also an illusion of which we must try to disillusion ourselves from. And as "bad" as that may sound for those who believe that everyone has a purpose, whether it be from the "God" of the modern and old worlds, or from ourselves, to me it makes much sense. If we do have a purpose I have yet to find mine, and others like me will agree that our "purpose" is not given to us by some divine creator. I guess what I am trying to say is that we must find it in ourselves if we believe that we have one, and not rely so heavily on deities to save us from ourselves.

I don't think humanity is sufficiently homogenous for one answer to fit all.
Some will be most happy "winging it" from day to day,
others need to have a plan for the next thirty years.
Most have some desire for family and children "built in" by instinct. And many don't need to ask themselves the purpose question: they know, and always have known (succeed or fail!)
But purpose isn't a panacea. There are those who have a burning desire to climb to the top no matter how many bodies and broken relationships they leave behind them...
Definitely purposeful.
"Making sense of a confused world" is a very reasonable preliminary objective.
"What are the rules of this game, exactly?"

We either came here with a purpose - we cannot remember because of the 'confusion' - or came here to make a difference and haven't found it yet.
Focus on what you love, your bliss - it is your purpose or will lead you to purpose.

i think we all have a purpose and its not important that we sit, ponder and figure out what we need to be doing in the world..most of the times our purpose just finds us!! and i think yours would find you soon enough too..!! just think about what you like doing, who can you help and most importantly how can you make our crazy world a better place!

A purpose drives you forward, and without one there would be no reason to move, and then you would starve to death, but we die anyway, and other organisms cannot conceive of such as purposes. So no, they are not a necessity, only an extension of our existence.

Yes-I think you probably need to be more spiritual. We all have a purpose and are supposed to learn things, and to teach things to the people we know, whether it's patience, tolerance, or whatever. Do one good deed every day (whether it's a small deed or a large deed, doesn't matter).

We are all born with a God-given purpose, and it is up to us to figure out what it is and to ask God to help us find it. Search for your purpose with God on your side, and you will find it.
