Grass killer for a garden?

I have a lot of grass growing in my garden and am having a hard time getting rid of it. Is there a safe herbicide I can put on that will kill the grass but not harm the other plants?

Anything you use to kill the grass will kill your plants. Hate to say it but the only way to fight the grass is to pluck it out. I've noticed over a period of a few years the more you pluck out the grass the less grows in the next year. You just have to weed, weed, weed, those beds. I find it easier to choose one bed a day to weed instead of letting the grass overtake all the beds and trying to pull it all in one or two days. 5 minutes a day is all you need.

If you have grassy weeds mixed in with your garden, use an "over the top" selective herbicide like Grass-b-gone, Post, or Fusilade. They will kill grassy weeds in ornamentals with no harm to the desirable plants. Read the label on the product before using.

I've had fairly good success with a (non-disposeable) water bottle which has a squirt-type cap, filled with boiling water. If your aim is true and you get the boiling water only on the grass, which is hard while wearing an oven mitt, it works pretty well. I used two short stakes, maybe 7 inches each, with a piece of string about 2.5 feet long tied to them, to hold the ferns and hostas back while I treated grass nearby, then uprooted the stakes and moved over a few feet, did it again.

No chemicals was nice. Liked the price, too.
