It would be more advisable to just learn to use tampons. The shot - while it CAN cause weight gain - has the more likely occurrence of causing you to bleed irregularly.
Only about 25% of users have cessation of menses immediately, and only about 50% experience complete cessation; the rest have irregular, heavy, prolonged, or regular menstruation.

So relying on the shot to stop your period may not be the best thing to do.

I've been on "the shot" aka Depo Provera for almost three years. Personally, it's not for everyone. Yes, your period eventually stops altogether, but this doesn't happen for about a year after being on it - the first year can be hell, too! It took me about nine months to adjust to it - I had horrific mood swings, I bled/spotted for most of those months, and felt overall out of control of my body. Somehow, I made it through that adjustment period, and I've been on it since.

I would recommend talking to your doc about one of the birth control pill options that let you have your period either four times a year, or delay your period altogether (this was recently approved by the FDA for use). I would not recommend the shot for someone your age - it has a history of slowing down calcium production and can cause brittle bones.

Anyhow, hope that helped a bit!

I do NOT recommend the shot, especially for someone as young as you are.

I would never ever EVER recommend this to anyone. The side affects are harmful!! There are class action lawsuits against Pfizer with how horrible this shot affects women.

Please, go for Seasonale, or something else, but NOT the shot!

i have never, ever heard of a birth control shot that stops your period. i think you have your information messed up. there is a pill that stops it for 3 months, but besides that the shot makes you have your period. i was going to get the shot but changed my mind, my doctor told me i would still get my period on it. there is no way to stop your period and to do so at your age is dangerous.
