I am craving love and affection like a hug and sympathy but from people OUTSIDE of my family. In fact closeness and tender love feelings from my family make me want to puke. There is nothing wrong with my parents, they are very loving, but they of course give me my space, im not talking about overaffectionate parents at all, but it just makes me sick ANY verbalized love feelings from them or hug or something, I am seeking it outside of people of my own flesh and blood. Why do I feel this way?? Is it normal????

I think it depends on how old you are. Everyone gets to the age where they seek to move away from the confines of the family unit, and explore the "outside". The things we learn from our family, we take for granted as the "norm", so we want to experiment with these behaviours, with others. So, if it's normal in your family to show affection & gives hugs, then it's only natural you'll want to try these feel-good behaviours with other people who you care about.
There's nothing wrong with you!

I can't answer yes or know to your question, but I certainly sympathize with you. I feel that way as well. For me it's because we never really hugged and kissed in my family. There was certainly love and pride to go around but not so much of the physical affection or verbalization of I love you. Whereas with friends or co-workers hugging was introduced in the beginning and saying I love you when we got closer- it comes more naturally. My suggestion is not to worry about it. The most important thing is that you have people in your life that will give you that affection when you need it-- family or otherwise.

Take Care.

I think it's normal to want affection and acceptance from people outside of your family. There comes a point in our lives when we need another kind of love. I think sometimes we feel that our family has to love us so we need to know that others love and accept us also. Just remember that when everyone else around you lets you down, your family will always be there to lift you up and love you.

I feel that way too sometimes but as i am getting older it is not as bad but the feelings are still there. I always think it is something crazy that i can't remember from childhood or something that affected me. I am sorry i couldn't help, but i can relate so hopefully you don't feel alone in this. If you find out any good info let me know!!

OH YA. My baby is all grown up. Its a chemical and psychological thing. I believe its normal. Just try to use good judgement when looking for that send hug. BE safe and finish grad school before committing to relationships.

Totally normal. I get really touchy feely sometimes and just want to hold someone. I have been single for a year, and I think that might have something to do with it. Luckily there is a lesbian at work that likes to hug me, so I don't have that problemo anymore. :)

Yeah, I don't like my family to touch me...maybe because I feel more understood by certain people outside my family. It feels like a violation of boundaries for family to hug me...because they don't know the "real" me. And I don't know why else...but I can relate.

There is a limit for any thing and when it crosses, we human will come to know that it is not real but it is artificial, then, at that point, every one will feel awkward about that situation.
It is quite normal with you.
