As a Christian, the only good reason I have seen for us being in Iraq is religious liberty! But other than that, our president has changed the reason so many times that I am confused about this! Thank you for your answers...

You are funny, 4829, "Make Cheney rich", even thoug it would not suprise me, were it true!

WMD's were never found, since they were not found, so Bush has not said more about that, Saddam is dead, why are we still there?

Politcally-wrong, I'm sorry, you are wrong, I am confused by what I hear Bush say, not what the news and libs say.

Big Joe, I honestly wish we were not there, and I wish they would bring our boys home, I have a cousin over there, and he is in danger, I am against the war, and wish it would be over today. The USA cannot, I said CANNOT make peace in the Middle East, the world has been trying for thousands of years, and they have yet to succeed!

To everyone who says I am misenformed, I watch Fox News, Bill O' Righty, and Shawn Hannity, and don't leave out Rush Limbaugh's talk show. Like I said, (repeating myself, I must be some kind of parrot), what confuses me is NOT what the media says, but what BUSH says.

Docscoll, I never said that the reason we went to Iraq was religious liberty! If I believed that, I would not have asked this question!!

Well my friend I think it is now too late to discuss a reason, we are there, and we made it all a mess, we have to think together for a good outcome of this -since we have envaded the country-, for us and for them...
I do not want the troops to stay in Iraq one more day, but I also do not want the history to blame the United States for the ongoing killing of innocent civilians if we just leave. The history will punish the USA as a whole not only the Leaders.
So let us focus now on good ways to stabelize the country and then get out, and the best way to do that is to admit that this was a mistake, and to seek help, starting hear at home, both parties should come to gether and try to correct this mistake, but off course not without admitting that there is a mistake first of all.
After having define our mistake and agree that this has to be corrected in a united way, we should seek help from outside, may be the United Nation, may be Iran, may be Syria, once we agree between each other, it will never be difficult to find help outside.
Then we have to look inside Iraq itself, which Iraqis can help us and which can not, are there any Iraqis who are willing to correct the mistakes. In my own openion the mistakes inside Iraq started with the constitution that have been imposed upon them, the consitution that did not take into consideration the diversity of the Iraqi people and the history of the place. The consitution that collectively punished a good number of the Iraqi population without a crime.
After having completed this very dificult task, then and only then we can force Iraqis to sit an resolve their differences and guide them through this prosses without taking sides as we do now.
And after that, we have to seriously think of solving the Middle East crisis, and we can do that, all what we need is being honest and do not take sides. Everybody in the area now agrees that Israel has the right to exist, it is Israel's turn to agree that there is an occupation of land by force and this ocupation should come to an end. And we can do that,

Why is it that no person ever mentions whilst the UN ordered it somewhat is inspectors out of Iraq using fact of all the stumbling blocks placed up by Hussein? Saddam signed UN determination 1441, which replaced into purely a reiteration of UN Res. 687 (set words of end-hearth) that replaced into why Bush a million stopped bombing him. This required that Iraq supply UNMOVIC and the IAEA prompt, unimpeded, unconditional, and unrestricted get right of entry to any the place they had to bypass. Hussein refused to conform. Clinton did no longer act whilst he ought to have. He had the authority to deliver the bombers back in then, and no person could have challenged, or maybe criticized him for it. yet he did no longer. Bush had to, and ever when you consider that, the libs have talked approximately as him a liar, that he began a conflict for oil...blah,blah blah. We won't in any respect understand the place the WMD's went, or for that be counted, if there have been any. If there have been none, Saddam Hussein ought to bypass down using fact the stupidest ruler who ever lived, using fact he gave each and every effect that he had some thing to conceal. The UN, Pansy f'n company that it somewhat is, did no longer something..permit it holiday. meanwhile, 'ol Saddams paying Palestinian suicide bombers families $25,000 whilst between the loopy ***** is going finding for his seventy two virgins. So George went after him. thank you George, it replaced into intense-high quality to have a Pres. with some balls for a on a similar time as...your 2nd term, you sucked, yet i'm happy it replaced into you for 9/11...Al Gore could have been a nightmare.

There were a multitude of original reasons given to begin the war in Iraq, many of which are still valid. This essay, "Original Reasons for Toppling the Saddam Hussein Regime During the Second Persian Gulf War," gives an overview of many of these reasons. One thing is certain; the war was *never* solely about weapons of mass destruction. Whether it is justified or not will depend on one's view of the *other* reasons that were presented:

Actually, the reasons given by Bush have never changed. They are still the same reasons that he's been using since 2002, when he took the case before both Congress and the UN.

And the reasons for remaining there and seeing the job through, until Iraq is stable, and the government is capable of controlling the country, still hold true as they were on the first day of the occupation / nation-building.

You've been perhaps relying too much on the media and pundits for your info, which is bound to leave you inadequately informed.

Meriam -
From your opening comment:

"As a Christian, the only good reason I have seen for us being in Iraq is religious liberty!" - - - -
Let me say this about that:

Iraq was, is and probably will be an Islamic nation.
The so-called Democracy that we're exporting (at the expense of our own American blood and money) doesn't change this.

Iraq's new constitution (see link for full details) clearly states in Section One, Article Two:
"First: Islam is the official religion of the State and it is a fundamental source of legislation:
A. No law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established."

So, from whatever faith you claim to follow, you can hang up the idea that we were/are there for "religious liberty".

We have that here, in America, where we can worship (or not) whom we want, how we want, when we want...at least for now.

As you probably know, Bush was given incorrect information about the WMD's, Al Quaeda activity in Iraq and all the other tales we were told.
The real reason we went probably won't be known for decades...but you can bet your bottom dollar a lot of the reason was about oil.

Two-thirds of the oil we consume in this country come from foreign sources (as per the C.I.A. fact book).

If anything, we can thank our current and past elected officials for leaving us vulnerable to other nations by not having an energy policy.

Do not pay attention to what Bush says the reasons are. He'll alter his reasons in order to appease the public. He's been lying the entire time. Iraq was on Bush's agenda BEFORE he got into the White House. I remember seeing an interview about it a while ago.

As for religion, that's the dumbest reason to go to war. Why the hell do we think we have the leverage to tell them what kind of religion they can have? This is supposed to be a free country, so we should exercise the freedom of religion worldwide. The Crusades are a perfect example of this.

I believe that this war is completely for economical gain and influence. My theory is that Bush wanted to formulate some sort of ruse to get us into Iraq. Then, he would proceed to moving Saddam out of power, then placing a new leader in his place, but would be more like a figurehead puppet for the US government to manipulate for the oil. Iraq has some of the largest oil reserves in the world. This is the only logical explanation I have ever seen.

Now that the war in Iraq has been spiraling out of control for some time, we need to exit. Some people say that things will get worse if we leave, and that is very true. But on the other hand, things will get worse if we stay. The casaulty mark has surpassed 3,500 dead and over 20-25k injured, many of them permanently. We ought to just cut our losses and try to find a diplomatic solution. They will all continue to bomb and kill each otehr until they come to the realization that its meaningless to shed so much blood. These people are killing their own brothers, and we're right in the middle of it. Not only that, the US has been arming both sides of the conflict.

There's no endpoint in sight, and there needs to be one. We can't just stay there for 10+ years like we did in Vietnam. The insurgents/terrorists/ whatever the hell you want to call them have been developing even more sophisticated IEDs that are crushing Humvees like toy trucks. The war just needs to end, and it sucks that so many families have to suffer because of a few ill-advised decisions by people, many of which don't have their kids fighting in the war.

WMD was the biggest load of crap. Iraq never even had them, and even if they did, they had NO way of delivering such an attack. I just don't understand why its okay for Bush to sacrifice so many lives based on a stupid lie, and I'm even more pissed off that people actually believed him. The US is truly ignorant. We can have thousands of nukes, but other countries can't? To this day, the US is the ONLY nation to use atomic/nuclear weapons in war. The reason why countries develop nukes is for protection. They DON'T want to be attacked, especially by western powers. Why do you think Iran's been setting up their nuclear program? They saw what happened to Iraq, and and trying to prevent a preemptive strike by the US.

If you want to have a better understanding, you should research the war, and also occurrences before the war that happen in Iraq.

the war in iraq is all about the oil there.it has;nt got a thing to do with freedom or religious freedom.it;s about the rich getting richer.just take a look at the gas prices.every year the oil companies get huge profits.if we have a gas shortage like they say we do. then why do the big oil companies receive such high profits every year.it;s just the government lying to it;s people again. we need to get out of iraq.they don;t worship the same GOD you and i do.if you;re a christian like you say you are. you should be telling everyone you talk to to tell their politicians, to get our troops out of iraq and back home.

Why we went and why we're still there are two completely different reasons. So I suggest that instead of asking why we're still there, ask yourself what would happen if we left? With Iran pursuing nuclear weapons, insisting that Israels days are numbered, sunnis fighting shiites, shiites fighting sunnies, and the world's 3rd largest oil reserves under the feet of al qaeda terrorists continuing to fight US forces, does withdrawling sound sound like a good idea?

we should always pray for our leaders so they make right decisions according to GOD will.

1 Timothy 2[kjv]
1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

JESUS loves you.Have u recieved JESUS for the forgiveness of your sins?

John 3:16[kjv] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

so when we believe in JESUS we have eternal life.JESUS lived a sinless life and gave up his life as a sacrifice so we can be sin free. Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with the blood JESUS shed on the cross.

With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.JESUS loves u and wants u to be saved.
