Because they have already gotten a court judgment against you they infact can garnish your wages if they feel you have not made a responible payment arrangments.
I would advise you to contact them and ask for a the direct supervisor and try to make a payment arrangement with them.
If you are succesful in doing so you need to make sure you do NOT miss a payment or they will come after you for up to 30% of your wages they do not care about your other bills they care only about getting their money back.
Good Luck!

Yes, they can garnish you. If yo can't make their minimum payment, you're out of luck. Do you know the date you have to have $500? Maybe send the $300 now and the other $200 before the due date. If you have any other questions, let me know. I work with garnishments....plus I've had one before. So I am very knowledgeable in this area. Good Luck!

They are going to garnish either way, so that they get their money. When the full $500 debt is retired, the garnishment will stop.
Sending them a certified letter stating that you can only pay $300 is meaningless to them. They are concerned about collecting the debt.

1. Did you go to court to contest it? What are they charging you for if they repossessed it ?
2.If you were not properly served or notified that you were being taken into court, go to the court they got the judgement against you at and ask the court to set a side the judgement because you were not notified. Then go back into court and tell the judge you can only pay $300.
3. If you decide to pay them $300 instead of $500 you should put on the back of the check, "if this check is cashed you are in agreement that you are paid in full." If they sign it, and cash it, that is your proof. Unfortunately, many collection agencies put you on the credit reporting companies, and then sell your account. Then when they fail to collect, and after listing you on trw, transunion, etc. they sell your account and before you know it, you have 6 different bad credit reports against you for only one account because they sold your account so many times, and they all listed you. If they got really got a judgement against you, ask to see proof, or look it up at the court and yes, they can garnish your wages. Another thing, when you go to doctors offices, or dentists, or anywhere and they ask for your social security number, never give it out. It is illegal to ask you for your social, they only want it to go after you in case you don't pay. You only have to give it out to the government, but you don't have to give it out to the police.

You cost them a heck of a lot more by not paying your bill in the first place. Pay up or face this pattern your entire life. Get over it. It's a penalty or interest; call it whatever you like.

They can get a court order to take the money from your wages. You owe it, so one way or another you pay it.
