Or do they find them, like a home? I know this might sound wierd, but i've always wondered.

A snail's shell is made from calcium carbonate, and the snail produces it as it grows. So an older snail has a larger shell, and it is biologically a part of the snail.

I'm familiar with a couple of species of aquatic snail, and the terrestrial species that's eaten as escargot. All are hatched or born with a shell (some aquatic species give live birth).

They have there shells when they are born,but they the are not hard,it gets harder as they grow. the air makes it get hard,but it will take years for it to really grow,it gets harder as they get older........

i think they're slugs to begin with until they find a shell
