In what order should I check the electrical system? What parts are the most expensive?

Electrical can be tough, but you can do some stuff yourself. Start at the sparkplug and work backwards. Replace the plug and check for spark. If no spark, pull the cap and check with the bare wire. Often the spark plug or cap is the culprit. The cap can be checked for resistance to see if faulty as well. If everything is still in spec (don't forget a grounded kill switch), check the coil (again you can bench test this, but now you will need some help from a manual. Try www.shopmanualdownloads.com). Lastly, you can check the remainder, but this will definitely need a manual. As far as expense, the farther you get from the sparkplug, the more it costs ($4 to $400, pretty much). Good luck.

Good answer above. You might want to check that anywhere anything is supposed to be grounded you have a good connections. Disconnect everything that is bolted to the frame and clean the contact area so you know you have ground. Older dirt bikes either lose their ground or the magneto fades. Other failures are certainly possible but these 2 are most likely. Broken high voltage wires from the coil are common.

take a seem at lots of the bike mags. rather lots all the magazines fee Honda using fact the suited used airborne dirt and dirt bike to purchase. Their autos are outfitted o.k. and that they stand up to the attempt of time. it may't be the quickest or the lightest even regardless of the undeniable fact that it will be the suited cost on your money and it would be good. I had a ninety 8 CR125 years in the past and that i crashed the hell out of it distinctive situations. in no way had a topic with it. Ended up merchandising it for a highway bike. KTM is a huge bike even regardless of the undeniable fact that it will be out of your funds and the fix expenses would be larger than different manufacturers.

The resistance specs are needed for each electrical component.
The specs are different for each bike (every brand, model and year of the same model).
Purchase a shop manual before they go out of print.
