I do.

I think it's cheap, and lazy and lessens the desire and drive to succeed in showbusiness. And, just because it is easier to netowrk that way just adds to how lame it is to promote yourself through myspace/facebook.

Even with technology, I highly doubt that hte Rolling Stones or the Beatles would use myspace to promote themselves. LOL!

Yeah, part of me thinks it looks really amateurish to just put up a MySpace page and try to promote themselves there, but on the other hand, MySpace is definitely THE forum for the youth of America. If MySpace had been around in 1964, I actually think the Beatles would at least have had a page. No, I doubt they would have tried to add random people as friends to promote themselves, but I would think they would have a page just due to the large masses of teenage fans who wanted to write them letters, etc. The Stones, not so much, they were more anti-establishment, but the Beatles were promotion all the way in those first few years, before Rubber Soul.

I think it's silly to promote your music/comedy ONLY through myspace, but having a myspace is one good way to get the word out about your stuff, and if you are a professional musician, chances are that you need all the publicity you can get.

And about your little Beatles/Rolling Stones comment: let me point out that the Rolling Stones actually do promote their music through myspace! So you're quite a bit off about that. You can visit the Stones' myspace page here: http://myspace.com/therollingstones

Definitely not! It's free advertizing. Why wouldn't you do it. People have become so proficient with the internet (i.e., that is where they find out EVERYTHING!) that is you don't pimp yourself on myspace, you are missing out. Bands are doing wonderfull because of that page. And, they don't have to worry about being abused by a record label. It is really the Punk DIY ethic in motion.

I think it's totally lame. I don't even pay attention to them, its just annoying. And if you have to promote it on myspace you need real help... like a good manager.

I think it's a good way to get your name out there. There are millions of users on myspace.

I think that getting into the entertainment industry is one of the hardest things to do and people who really want to make it should use any vehicle they can. Nothing wrong with it at all.
