How long would it take going 80 miles in calm water and no wind???

Basically, how fast did they travel??????

you could get a Viking ship up to 10 knots if the crew was wired on Starbucks double expresso and then only for a short period of time......Olympic 8 man rowing shells make barley 10 miles an hour and only for 6 minutes at a time.....

a Viking longship would row over long periods at about 2 to 4 knots ( remember this is long periods, you cant row at full strength for very long)......so 15 to 20 hours; with periods of rest along shore at anchor....this is why they had to depend on sails to go open water distances.....like Norway to the Shetlands and then on to Iceland and Greenland and Labrador

About 7 hours going at 10 knots which is about the speed the viking ships rowed.
