i am a student (in the fall i will be a senior) getting ready to graduate and i am looking to build up my portfolio. my professor recommended me to a group that is writing a book and wants me to do all the graphic design for it. i dont know all of the details about what all i would be doing yet but i need to know about how much to charge. i have an interview in 3 hours and she asked me to let her know then. thanks! -mitchell

it all depends on how much art is involved, i did a comic book (just the coloring and cleaning up of scanned art work and I charged $500 for 20 pages...) you should see how much work is involved and take an hourly rate. Since your a student $15-25 an hour is nice and you get a portfolio piece outta it too.

If you are to be hired into the office, you should be paid hourly and your status wouldn't be under freelance usually because when you work for a company, you're booked to do a lot of designs for them. Though if your hired without application, your pricing depends on how much you believe your skill level, design level and hours you worked on your projects with them are worth. Hope this helps =]

Your professor is the one to ask. Maybe charge a set rate per illustration. Maybe $50-$75 per page?

as a whole? or for each design? base it upon how many designs you do. And how good you think the quality of the picutres is. this answer might be totally obvious, but hell I answered
