I think the American Film Institute rated the third man in the top 10 of all the movies ever made.
To me any movie Orson Welles is in or directed is a classic.

I don't think it's the best, but it is in my top 5-10 best ever made--a near-perfect "entertainment", as Graham Greene called it---a stunning tale of friendship, love and betrayal, excellently directed, photographed, edited and acted, with one of the most unique music scores in film history.
Every time I watch it, I think of the three main characters as lonely children, playing desparate games in a ruined world--Joseph Cotton's Holly Martins, an innocent blinded by devotion to a friend's memory; Valli as Anna Schmidt, who lives in make-believe, and the dead Harry, with the amoral, self-centered soul of a spoiled child.
"...five hundred years of brotherhood and peace--and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long, Holly!"

I thought I was a movie buff (well, maybe I watch movies in the buff) but I've never seen, never mind heard of this.
I still think the Matrix is the best.

A very good movie. But are you forgetting Citizen Kane which is number 2 with CASABLANCA NUMBER 1?

orson welles right?!! Yeah its on my list of greats. they tried to remake it or rip it a couple of years back in a movie with john travolta and sam l jackson. can't reme,ber the name of it but i felt like i was watching a rip of third man. many poeple think it won and oscar for best director but thats not true it was only nominated.
