Hi guys, My son is one of 3 kids in Essex area to be nominated as a potential winner, its for work experience and to honour him for his hard work and his masive experience gained thanks to the local garage that he works and learns at since last year when he was 14.

His school contacted me to tell me of him being nominated, and that he will be representing hs school and his bosses at the garage he works at.

I was asked if me and my wife and 2 sons will come to a special presentation ceremony to be held in some snooty place at newmarket racecourse.

I am in no way snooty, I am working class but now disabled, but if I had it my way I would wear my T-shirt, shorts and trainers, but I have to wear a darn suit and dickie bow tie, and so has my son. Only problem is my wife, she like me cannot stand all this hoo ha stuff but its for my son afterall and I am very proud of him, It may finish round midnight and is being televised. So for my poor wifewhat type of dress does she wear?

at a do like this. Its like the TV awards except its for kids that has done well on work experience. BBC East are supposed to be filming it all.

Only prob is, Newmarket is approx 2 hours away from my home in Essex, if it finishes around midnightits going to be at least 2am b4 I get home. I am up at 05.30 to go for my dialysis next morning so I will have a max of 3 hours sleep.

So back to my darling wife, would wearing a nice dress, or skirt and blouse or trousers and waistcoat, or T-shirt and joggers .

A long simple evening dress would be fine. Does not need to be fancy. Obviously it will depend what shape/size your wife is, but I've put some links below for the kind of thing she might want to wear.

She could try having a look at Debenhams eveningwear, or even Next, to get something of good value. And, if it's still in good nick after the event, sell it on eBay.

Hope this helps, and that you guys have a fun evening. Just remember, just because other people might be snooty, you've been invited to a fab event and you should all try to make the most of it and have as much fun as possible!

Try and make the effort as its recognition for your son's good work.

Keep it simple. A plain black dress will work best and not too short or tight or anything.

Maybe a reliable friend and take you there and back or wait outside or in a local pub or something so if you start to feel ill you can at least nip to the car and wait for the rest of your family in comfort. Hope it goes well and be proud of your son.

I'm not from the UK, but I've visited London. I agree that a nice simple black long black dress would be perfect. She can pick the style that's most comfortable for her. I'd accessorize with simple jewelry. Maybe just some nice earrings. Black heels or flats would be fine. She should be comfortable, yet smart. Good luck! I hope your whole family has a wonderful time.

I think your wife should wear a dress, preferably black to suit the occasion, and that she is comfortable in.

I understand you are both out of your comfort-zone in going to this 'do' but you should make an effort without hating what you're wearing. You're wife should wear a smart yet casual dress that she feels comfortable in and yet is kind of elegant. If she really feels uncomfortable in wearing a dress you can wear a smart trouser-suit or something.

I hope it goes well.

You can hire dinner-jackets, bow ties, cummerbunds, shoes etc, and they will also have a suitable dress for your wife - it's usually long and black. I'd thumb through Yellow Pages for "Dress Hire". Just trundle along and explain you're both going to a black-tie event and they'll sort you out.

I agree, a pain in the a*se but in honour of your son's achievements I'd suffer a bit.

Congratulations to him!

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/yGuSc

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

it all depends on your wife size and body shape. for a formal/semi-formal occassion, she will never go wrong with a nice black dress.
black dresses are appropriate for most formal occassion or not so formal.
she can then accessorise the dress with some necklaces, bags and shoes and even a shawl.
she needs to go a shop and try some clothes out.
the best way is for her to go with a friend, so she has someone to tell her how it looks.
but trust me, a black dress and the right accessories, she wont go wrong.
good luck

A simple formal would be best full length with flats or low heels so she is comfy - if she doesn't have a full length formal dress perhaps a friend or family member can lend her one for the occasion. It may not be "your style" but it is to honor your son and you both want to look your best. Congrats to you for raising such a responsible young man.

she doesnt need to go overboard, can just get a dress that looks more sort of smart/pretty than too casual and maybe a shrug or little jacket over the top. so long as her shoes match the tone of the dress it'll be fine. it doesnt need to be expensive either

good luck! i sympathise!
