Unfortunately we have people who decide that they want to be criminals instead of legally obtaining money or not committing other offenses that land them in jail. When the prison population is growing we have to build new prisons and if you saw the court rulings on what prisoners are entitled to you would see why prisons are so expensive. Their gyms and libraries are better than most the general public have access to.

Being poor does not force people into crime. Most poor individuals are good citizens and do not commit crimes. There are plenty of spoiled rich brats that commit crimes.

Being irresponsible for yourself is the reason people commit crimes. Anyone who does not put the blame on the individual who commits the crime just wants people to not be held accountable for their own actions. If you cannot be responsible and accountable, then why should you be a free citizen?

We live in what we like to call a capitalist system. The type of governmental job building you are asking about is what they do in communist countries. Government does nothing well. That includes job building.

We have alot of crime, we need to build more prisons

Unemployment is at historic lows (under 5%). The govermnent should not be in the business of creating jobs anyhow.

You do not have a valid point there. Jobs do not keep people out of jail, criminals, will always exist in these new societies, or new ways, in a larger number.

Because building prisons creates jobs and a solution for the growing crime rate. To create a prison you have to hire contractor and staff plus you can lock criminals up, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

It's not the governments place to create jobs. However I can see that they should build more schools.

There are more people out there trying to commit crimes than trying to get a job

Unfortunately, they build jails because they need them. And who knows why that is? I don't think I want the gov't to "build" jobs. They will be silly and useless if they do.
